PROJECT MANAGER / MINING

Contract to Hire Position

$120,000/year negotiable

Our client, the only producer of Magnesium Oxide from a natural deposit of ore in North America is also the oldest, continuously operating mine in Nevada (1940). This is a rural employer with habitable communities 69 miles away (Hawthorne, NV) and 83 miles away (Fallon, NV) or in the mining town located 3 miles from mine site
Responsibilities:

Requires understanding all of the steps involved in designing and developing a project from concept to completion namely feasibility studies, equipment selection, economic viability and project management.

This position is responsible for supporting the mobile maintenance activities to ensure safe, responsive, high quality and economical maintenance services.
This position will be providing technical support for all disciplines in maintenance with emphasis on improving equipment reliability, ensuring quality services and repairs are being performed, reducing maintenance costs and providing technical support for troubleshooting equipment and process problems.
This position will also be managing some individual capital projects assigned to the mobile maintenance department.
Optimize current predictive and preventive maintenance tasks and activities, identifying gaps and developing corrective action plans, driving implementation and evaluating improvement performance.
Monitor and evaluate “Top Ten” equipment failures making recommendations to improve their Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF).
Support the Maintenance Supervisor with obtaining, managing and analyzing equipment vibration data.
Provide mechanical knowledge to support maintenance efforts to ensure equipment reliability, reduced maintenance costs and minimum unplanned downtime.
Improve maintenance work efficiency by implementing precision maintenance techniques.
Assist Maintenance Supervisors with ensuring quality services and repairs are being provided.
Evaluate current equipment spare parts inventory to ensure spare parts are available for critical equipment.
Assist in the training and development of in-house maintenance resources.
Plan and manage capital projects assigned to the maintenance department. Includes cost and schedule accountability for assigned projects.
Assist the maintenance staff with developing the annual maintenance budget.
Assist the maintenance staff in developing the major turnaround (TAR) budget (every 3 years).
Assist the maintenance staff with the planning, scheduling and execution of the major turnaround (TAR) every 3 years.
Assume the Maintenance Manager’s responsibilities in their absence.

Additional skill set preferred:

Education & Experience:

Minimum 5 years of experience in manufacturing environment.
Preferred degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering a plus but not required.
Language Skills: Comprehensive demonstrated skills in communicating effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
Mathematical Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage and plan budgets.
Reasoning Ability: Demonstrated problem solving and business decision making.
Physical Demands: Ability to walk distances & climb stairs

Work Environment: Use of hearing, eye and respiratory protection as required

Position requires regular onsite attendance -- this position cannot be performed on a remote or telecommute basis on a temporary, short or long term basis.
Must have the ability to simultaneously multi-task across multiple capabilities and functions and handle multiple competing priorities and requirements, including performing site and functional responsibilities, responding to frequent e-mail and phone communications and attending multiple meetings and conference calls. Note that these activities may not be time bound to core hours or presence at the site.
Must have the ability to work effectively under and manage to strict production, time and performance deadlines.
Must be willing and able to work beyond the hours typically defined as a "regular" workday, which may or may not include weekends and holidays.
They would be expected to acquire adequate proficiency in the products, processes, and equipment associated with the manufacture of Magnesium Oxide. These will include calcining, sizing, screening, milling, conveying, storage, bagging, and shipping. This individual should also become familiar with resolving quality issues.
The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of assigned projects including contractor management, bids/proposals, timelines, execution of contract.
They will also provide support for capital projects by defining the scope, justification and budget for projects.
They will also cooperate in capital projects through commissioning and start-up; identify opportunities for elimination of bottlenecks in the process; support production management in trouble-shooting production problems.

Operations and Maintenance personnel, R&D, Marketing, and Sales
Experience with appropriate statistical software a plus
Must be experienced with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
Ability to supervise the manufacturing employees in absence of the shift supervisor.
Pass both background and drug assessments
