SUMMARY
This position will help design and test our planned upcoming line of customer specific integrated products.
You will create dependable, hardworking products befitting our company’s name. You will exercise your creativity and determination every day as you develop prototypes, place them through rigorous testing and release them for manufacturing when they meet or exceed our specifications for product quality and safety. Your responsibilities will include designing products, providing technical assistance to other departments and checking work done by other engineers.

As part of our R&D team he/she will create dependable, reliable products befitting our company’s name and will exercise creativity and determination to develop and test prototypes, place them through rigorous testing and prepare the release for product development or shipment as prototype for qualification tests at our customers locations.

Reporting to the R&D Manager of our Silicon Valley Innovation Center, responsibilities will include participation in design of products, providing technical assistance to other departments and checking work done by other engineers. He/She will have frequent contact and alignment with our international customers, our headquarters and subsidiaries. Business travel will occur from time to time.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead and organize team and project work packages on short-, mid-, and long term.
  • Create and align team and project budgets with management
  • Oversee and control team and project budgets to stay within aligned cost frame
  • Create and align project plans and proposals, budgetary project quotes and required contract frameworks with Pfeiffer Vacuums management and customers
  • Oversee, and control projects and required equipment
  • Execute procurement of materials, equipment and services required

Duties

  • Lead and assist in development of projects and programs that will establish quality objectives.
  • Manage teams through all phases of cycle development, including analysis, project design and development, testing periods, installation and final delivery.
  • Oversee a department and team of engineers, including team and project budget management, scheduling , risk analysis and procurement.
  • Interface directly with managers, employees, vendors and others to clearly define project requirements and expectations.
  • Create a work plan that includes a schedule, milestones, control and risk factors.
  • Identify complex risks, lead reviews, create risk mitigation and implement action plans.
  • Manage multiple projects individually and as a team, all simultaneously.
  • Protect confidential and sensitive information.
  • Enhance company and department reputation by accepting ownership, exploring new possibilities and adding value to the organization.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of business strategies, goals and missions.
  • Follow the scope of a project that goes from the proposal stage, to the technical work up, and finally to the delivery of the product.
  • Participate in the initial conception stage along with a client in order to better meet the needs of the customer and to translate those expectations to employees.
  • Design solutions for customer problems related to commerce, corporate identity or other issues.
  • Lead the design process of a product by working with a team of mechanical and electrical designers, engineers and developers.
  • Work to find and solve any problems with the function of a project by implementing testing processes and working with technical staff in order to address any issues.
  • Supervise a team of engineering professionals by developing effective training procedures, appropriate task assignments, positive customer experiences and top quality control processes.
  • Aim to meet all project goals within the specified budget and time frame of the organization; adjust practices to reflect cost saving measures.
  • Generate periodic project status reports to be presented to company stakeholders; detail data, tasks and processes.
  • Develop additional skills, certifications and other banks of knowledge in the vacuum industry by attending professional conferences, leading seminars with colleagues and keeping all relative qualifications and certificates up to date.
  • Take on new and unproven tasks in order to develop new ideas and opportunities that help lead the company to future success.

Tasks require walking, sitting, bending, reaching, mobility, frequent lifting and pushing/pulling. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to balance multiple tasks and any stress associated with the duties and responsibilities of this position are essential requirements in the performance of this job.

General Qualifications
Ability to manage many different jobs and meet deadlines consistently. Experience in planning projects with large data sets and making decisions for data-driven analytics. Ability to balance and prioritize multiple projects and priorities. Proven leadership skills.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a technical area of study. At least 5 years of experience managing projects in a creative setting. At least 3 years in a supervisory role.

Language Skills
The ability to communicate in English verbally and in writing is essential. Reports, email correspondence, schedules and graphic presentations are all typical requirements of this position.
Experience in communicating with international customers in various ways. Demonstrated communication skills, including the ability to clearly communicate ideas.

Mathematical Skills
Above average mathematical skills required.

Reasoning Ability
Must be able to multi task and operate in a fast paced environment while maintaining a disciplined approach to oversee major customers’ needs. The ability to understand the customers’ requirements and plan the support strategy is essential. Must be able to solve both practical and complex problems and deal with a variety of factors in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid driver’s license is required.

TOOLS AND/OR EQUIPMENT
This position uses a computer extensively with demonstrated abilities in the use of Microsoft products as well as other common office and project management type equipment and software.
