- This position is responsible for providing design, technical and engineering support to the Oswego Works Cold Mill department to meet the Novelis business goals and objectives, while managing numerous projects in support of capital investments and operating expense budget.
- The major challenge of this position will be the ability to organize, direct, coordinate and conduct major work activities, and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to corporate, plant management and project teams. This position will require the individual to work effectively without close supervision or direction and to coordinate and supervise project teams and contractors.
- Providing innovative, effective, and efficient engineered solutions and designs for obsolescence and upgrade capital and expense projects.
- Manage projects - develop specifications/scopes work for quotations, develop cost estimates, and prepare RFAs, hold bid meetings with vendors and contractors, evaluate bids and make recommendations to award the jobs, manage budgets, ensure bill of material listings, all assemblies and sub-assemblies, including materials necessary to produce them are generated or supplied as contracted.
- Develop Gannt chart schedules and manage projects for on time completion within project budget.
- Manage and report on project spending and forecasting for all projects within the department, as well as maintain and coordinate a long term 5-year capital plan.
- Manage projects from origination to commissioning and handoff to operations.
- Good people and communication skills are necessary to coordinate project requirements and activities with department engineering resources
- Work within the plant capital budget to balance the needs of the plant and the Cold Mill by working with other departments to set priorities for capital spending
Qualifications
- 5 to 7 years of electrical engineering experience with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
- Personal traits should include the ability to utilize human relation skills to motivate, train, understand, and develop others to attain the objectives
- Desire to take initiative and develop a pro-active relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and fostering a collaborative relationship
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload; must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
- Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced and demanding environment
- Solid computer skills with software applications. Proficiencies must include Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and Project. Ability to learn new software programs quickly
- Must also possess leadership skills to direct, lead and develop other personnel to accomplish personal, plant and corporate objectives
- Establish and enforce policies and practices required to provide safe equipment, a safe working environment, and safe work practices.
- Promote EHS policy, implement the EHS management system and ensure continual improvement of EHS performance in day-to-day operations.
- Maintain good housekeeping and safe working conditions at all times.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7 to 9 years of electrical engineering and capital project experience
- Versed in PLCs, DC/AC drives coordinated to provide tension control of batch or continuous sheet/web handling process, and Level II machine recipe communication systems.
- Specific brand experience with GE VersaMax or Rockwell ContolLogix PLC software and GE or Siemens DC motor drives.
