Position Summary
The YMCA Internal Learning Center (ILC) has two locations in Boston and Woburn as well as partner programs and provides education in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and other topics for adult learners. The Program Director is passionate about our mission to support adult English language learners moving into thriving self-sufficiency in the U.S. workforce and culture. The position oversees a team of teachers and direct service staff to ensure quality programming that supports students' progress toward their next steps in postsecondary education, training, and/or employment leading to a family-sustaining wage.
The Program Director oversees all staff, programs, operations, and outcomes, and manages the adult education program budget. The Program Director is responsible to ensuring successful adherence to Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and other funding contracts; support and expansion of revenue-generating programs; and creating a data-driven program culture and leads the continuous process of program improvement and impact.
Roles & Responsibilities
Program Management & Administration
- Interpret and implement the goals, objectives, and mission of the association and the branch through impactful programs
- Oversee daily program operations to ensure highest quality of programming and adherence to funder requirements
- Monitor attendance and enrollment for all ESOL classes. Work with Educational and Career Advisor and Teachers to promote and enforce attendance policy
- Work with staff on student assessment and progress improvement
- Maintain and develop high quality and standards-based curricula
- Ensure completion and compliance with all funder reports and contract documentation
- Manage class schedule, monthly teacher assignments, and substitute teacher coverage
- Ensure high quality data capture and management in YMCA and funder databases
- Use metrics and data to analyze and enhance program performance and impact
- Partner with the Executive Director to build and manage program budgets
Staff Management & Development
- Recruit, train, supervise and support adult education leadership and operations staff
- Manage staff of teachers, advisors, and intake coordinators in on-site, off-site, and remote adult ESOL programs
- Complete annual staff reviews and provide support for staff development plans
- Coordinate internal and external teacher professional development opportunities
- Ensure highest level of programming by developing and implementing continuous improvement plans for program and staff
Partnerships & Development
- Initiate projects that will result in increased services and revenue
- Manage community partnerships and develop new programs that strengthen the continuum of services to adult learners
- Support writing of grant proposals and complete funder reporting for private and public funding, and oversee contract compliance
- Collaborate with Director to support branch integration and expansion of ILC programs
- Leadership and involvement in the development and implementation of the strategic plan
- Participate in a minimum of 20 hours of staff development activities per year
Position Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree is TESOL, Education, or related field is preferred
- Experience with English for Speakers of Other Languages instruction and Adult Education Programs
- Experience in program management and staff supervision
- Strong supervisory, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, data, Learning Management platforms
- Strong math, data analysis, and problem-solving skills
Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge and familiarity working with multi-cultural, multi-lingual adult populations
- Proven ability to manage and implement program operations
- Strong communication skills
- Highly organized multi-tasker able to delegate and manage multiple projects
- MS Office and database skills. Commitment to and knowledge of working with data to evaluate and improve program results
- Team leader, flexible, and creative
- Sensitive to socio-economic and ethnic minority issues
- Support and value adult learners from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious, socio-economic and educational backgrounds
