Unique to the Miami Valley Region and Ohio, Sinclair is offering a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Unmanned Aerial Systems. This degree provides high quality, cutting edge education in a rapidly expanding career field with new and emerging business applications. Sinclair has the National UAS Training and Certification Center, the world’s first custom-built UAS indoor flying pavilion, a large flight simulation lab, a dedicated UAS transport vehicle, and many different UAS aircraft to fly.
The Director for Applied Modeling and Simulation, Unmanned Aerial Systems position exists to enable and advance internally directed and externally engaged applied Modeling and Simulation (M&S) for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and related technologies and applications. A primary goal of the position is the advancement of analyses to produce visualizations and other outputs to assist in decision-making. Results should increase capabilities, revenue, and positive exposure for Sinclair’s UAS efforts. The Director for Applied Modeling and Simulation works closely with the UAS department staff and reports to the Executive Director and Chief Scientist, Unmanned Aerial Systems.
The salary range for this position is $78,105 – 104,140.

Principal Accountabilities
- Identify, select, prioritize, pursue, and successfully complete a variety of UAS related applied Modeling and Simulation projects.
- Revenue generation sources including, but not limited to grants, contracts, and subsidies from public and private funding sources.
- Secure funding enabling research and income following efforts from licensing, royalties, and other sources.
- Ensure successful M&S related development, testing, demonstration, and other technical and operational aspects of projects are completed.
- Align to the strategic goals and vision of the UAS department and broader college, raise the status and standing of Sinclair’s UAS efforts in the U.S. and abroad.
- Advance the financial goals related to UAS operations within the college.
- Cultivate and strengthen relationships with current and potential clients, partners, and funders.
- Developing and submitting quality proposals to a variety of public and private funders.
- Perform solicitation briefings in pursuit of UAS related applied M&S projects and revenue opportunities.
- Support the operations of the Sinclair College National UAS Training and Certification Center as required for UAS operations, event facilitation and support, or other tasks as may be required.
Requirements
- Minimum of a Master’s degree in aerospace, mechanical or electrical engineering, or related field required; Doctorate preferred
- Minimum of 10 year’s relevant engineering work experience required
- Experience in applied modeling and simulation related to airspace visualization and mission planning is required
- Ability to obtain and maintain a current Remote Pilot Certificate issued by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is preferred
- Background in aviation with traditional and UAS related experience preferred
- Experience with Intellectual Property (IP) development, commercialization, and transfer, including issues related to licensure, royalties, and protection is preferred
- Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal and external customers and partners required
- Proven prior exceptional strategic planning and project management experience preferred
- Strong people management, team building, team interaction and conflict resolution skills required
- Strong organizational and analytical skills required
- Excellent oral, listening, and written communication skills, to include experience in preparing and delivering proposals, reports and presentations required
- Flight experience and/or rating in traditional aircraft and UAS preferred
- Strong skills with data analysis, design support, modeling and simulation programs, or tools (e.g. Matlab, Python, Systems Tool Kit, Pix4D) required
- Familiarity and ability to use various M&S software and tools, which may include but are not limited to Analytical Graphics Systems Tool Kit, Simlat COSMOS, Aegis Vampire, Cesium, and Google Earth is required
- Familiarity and ability to use various programming languages including but not limited to the following is preferred: C++, Java, R, Python, and SQL required
- Strong PC skills including standard office tools, proposal development and UAS industry specific software packages required
- U.S. Citizenship required
- U.S. Passport preferred
