- Manages funds received annually from Department of Veterans Affairs. Serves as the primary point of contact for the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance program. Works collaboratively with the Student Accounts Office, Undergraduate Financial Aid, and the Office of Graduate Assistantships & Fellowships to ensure timely, accurate and efficient processing of received funds. Validates and verifies all payments received; processes all over-payments and “school debts” due to changes in student schedules, in a timely and accurate manner.
- Serves as the chief School Certifying Official leading certification of GW students with military experience. Performs certification duties in a timely fashion and as required by GW and the VA.
- Works in conjunction with colleagues in the Office of the Registrar and Student Financial Assistance. Verifies and validates veteran benefit forms, including those related to funding and/or course registration, required by GW and the VA.
- Manages communication strategy related to all inquiries and corresponds with Veterans and Distance Education students, and tracks student contact to ensure that timely, regular consistent communication is maintained.
- Makes recommendations to policy and procedure in response to evolving federal and local regulations regarding veteran benefits.
- Conducts outreach to other GW stakeholders, such as all financial aid offices across the university, in order to assist in maintaining standard operational efficiencies. Ensure that all departments understand GI Bill functions and how to best apply scholarships.
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience as a School Certifying Official
- Experience in student or financial services
- Experience working with veterans and/or military personnel
- Demonstrated knowledge of Veterans Affairs benefits and financial aid systems
- Customer service experience
- Exceptional organizational abilities, oral and written communication abilities, and fine attention to detail
