Job Summary
GELITA USA is a global business that primarily produces gelatin and collagen peptides for use in the food, pharmaceutical, and health & nutrition industries.
GELITA USA is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Production Shift Supervisor in our Calumet City, Illinois location. They will supervise the daily operations of manufacturing while working on a rotating shift schedule. In addition, be able to cover other areas of the plant as needed. They will need to effectively communicate and enforce procedures, Safety, GMP, Housekeeping & 5S, Quality, and HACCP. The Production Shift Supervisor is focused on events within the next 12 -24 hours.
The ideal Production Shift Supervisor candidate should possess at least FIVE (5) years of supervisory experience, preferably in a continuous flow production environment, and have demonstrated a safety-first mindset and utilization of continuous improvement tools.
Essential Functions
The Production Shift Supervisor function must:

  • Oversee the daily operation of the Manufacturing areas to ensure safety and quality
  • Responsible for the supervision of production and off shift maintenance employees
  • Monitor and ensure that the employees operate the equipment in accordance with established procedures to meet quality and throughput goals
  • Monitor and ensure that the employees follow sanitation programs and procedures to meet GMP and quality goals
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment problems in coordination with the operator
  • Coordinate training for operators for the various positions under your control
  • Provide performance feedback and hold employees accountable through disciplinary action
  • Provide input, assist in maintaining, and adhere to all current and applicable procedures (such as ISO and FSSC)
  • Balance safety, quality, productivity, cost, and morale to achieve results in all areas: strives for continuous improvement
  • Coordinate the manpower and material needs of the plant to facilitate production. Plan for scheduled absences by ensuring substituting personnel is prepared to operate the equipment in a safe and efficient manner while producing a quality product
  • Direct maintenance work to minimize processing time lost
  • Ensure effective employee relations. Resolve employee issues through problem resolution
  • Ensure operators maintain current data on their respective white boards and other visual management tools
  • Plan and facilitates daily pre-shift meetings with standard agenda, to include weekly crew meetings
  • Become qualified in all plant equipment in assigned area and be proficient on the entire manufacturing process to provide guidance to operators
  • Be able to demonstrate the use of the continuous improvement tools, such as 5Why, Fishbone, etc.
  • Obtain a working knowledge and ability to enforce the Bargaining Unit Contract.

Job Requirements

  • The preferred candidate for the Production Supervisor position will have:
  • A High School diploma or GED; A degree in a technical area is preferred
  • Minimum of FIVE years of supervisory experience with proven leadership and management skills.
  • The availability to work a rotating shift schedule (days, nights, weekdays, weekends, holidays)
  • Above average interpersonal skills to maintain constructive relationships
  • Experience working in a Union environment is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Mechanical aptitude and be proficient in troubleshooting complex issues
  • Computer proficiency and the ability to quickly learn programs such as MS Office 365 and other in-house programs is a must
