Position: Mine Production Manager
Job Location: Lucerne Valley, California
Salary: $90K-$110K plus full
The Specialty Minerals (SMI) segment produces and sells the synthetic mineral product precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), mines mineral ores and processes and sells natural mineral products, primarily limestone and talc. This segment's products are used principally in the paper, building materials, paint and coatings, glass, ceramic, polymer, food, automotive and pharmaceutical industries.
This is considered a safety sensitive position therefore will be subject to random drug testing as required.
The Mine Production Manager, under general supervision, is responsible for: (1) planning and directing all mining operations at the Lucerne Valley Plant; (2) participating in financial planning (budgets) and cost control in the area of responsibility; (3) Providing Technical support for mining activities including planning, ore control, and survey support among others; (4) initiating, planning and executing process improvements, hazard and nuisance controls, waste and cost controls and operating upgrading; (5) administering the safety and employee relations program in the Mine; (6) completing work for compliance with all applicable government regulations and (7) Manages the activities of Mine production crews to meet established business and production objectives.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Production
Understands and interprets geological controls and forecast quality issues.
Ensures the stone feed to the Plant meets established quality standards, fully utilizing recognized control systems and procedures.
Prepares schedules and operating instructions in areas and ensures a satisfactory supply of materials and supplies necessary to meet scheduled commitments and product inventory levels in the operation.
Works with the maintenance team to keep equipment and facilities in satisfactory condition, provides scheduling necessary to least interrupt production flow.
Financial Planning and Cost Control
- Participates with management on evaluations of new equipment and facilities
- Helps in the development of capital and operating budget in the area and is directly responsible for the operational components for the departmental budget
- Controls all direct labor and materials cost in the area (less maintenance, environmental and land), recognizing the importance of fiscal budgetary balance.
Provide GPS and survey support
- Maintain Topographical model Vulcan software
- Pickup survey updates on a regular basis
- Ensure software maintenance is paid on a timely basis.
- Supervise reclamation compliance to include the following activities:
- Salvage of plants from disturbed land.
- Design reclamation jobs for D10 dozer in Vulcan
- Load reclamation GPS jobs into Machines; provide support to operator as required
- Troubleshoot and minor service on Dozer GPS
- Ensure dump lift elevation is constant and does not exceed permit
- Ensure dump footprint does not exceed permit
Support mine drilling activities
- Learn mine model and assist with determination of drilling needs.
- Create drill patterns in Vulcan in conjunction with existing topography which support the LOM plans and design
- Ensure drill samples are properly collected, analyzed and recorded in the Drill whole database
- Create grade control maps for loader operator based on drill hole samples on a timely basis.
- Load production drill hole samples into database when analysis is complete for annual block model updates.
- Interface with consultant to identify in-fill drilling locations and work with drillers to execute infill drilling campaign to improve block model
Mine design support:
- Maintain map files for Lucerne Valley quarries and other mining claims and deposits.
- Design ramp files for dozer to push in using GPS and Vulcan.
- Coordinate quarterly aerial survey
Complete all requirements to maintain Southwest US mining interests.
- Interface with consultants to complete annual maintenance work for all claims on all properties
- Ensure that all required annual fees and documents to hold these claims are filed.
Projects
- Identify projects to improve efficiencies and lower costs.
- Research CIP ideas and document appropriately.
- Assist with CPA documents and projects as required.
Maintain quarry department historical files and assist with extraction of information from those files as requested

Education & Experience
- BS in Mining Engineering, or Geologic Sciences
- 2-5 years’ experience.
- Experience with Vulcan3D or other mine planning software preferred.
Working Conditions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly conducting work in a controlled office environment, sitting at a desk. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is typically required to have the ability to work in an office environment, using office equipment as needed, read, write, listen, speak, and understand English, follow instructions and other oral/written information, compose correspondence in a professional manner, complete paperwork and other documentation timely and accurately, work independently and with others, communicate effectively with all individuals internal and external to the organization. On a frequent basis, there may be exposure to plant areas, which include exposure to outside weather conditions as well as loud noise from equipment and dust from production processes
Safety Equipment: Safety equipment required while performing the duties of this job includes an ANSI approved hardhat and safety glasses, safety shoes/boots with steel toe protection
Safety Training: A new employee hired to perform the duties of this position is required to be provided New Employee Training by a qualified individual who consists of a total of 24 hours of training
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $73,900.00 - $113,175.00 per year
