To lead the West Machining Operations Team for the Winston Salem Facility. Reporting directly to the West Mfg Manager leading (6) Production Supervisors and up to (100) production employees assigned to machining manufacturing areas.

Education / Training:
- High School Diploma or equivalent;
- Minimum of 10 years manufacturing/assembly or similar experience;
- 4 year degree desired.

Key Job Elements:
This first line manager position will supervise and lead various disciplines of the machining and manufacturing process including machining, laser heat treat and minor assembly.
Principle activities include:
- Ensure processing needs to assure fixtures, tooling and methods are provided to meet schedules and production requirements;
- Determine priorities and schedule the sequence of jobs;
- Budgeting and manpower planning;
- Determine overtime needs, determine priorities when resources are insufficient, and decides when disciplinary action is necessary;
- Produce product to meet quality standards while maintaining cost;
- Ensure necessary parts and materials are ordered and distributed in a timely and efficient manner;
- Coach and develop production supervisors and team;
- Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency;
- Work to improve processes, timeliness and reduce costs by eliminating non-value added activities;
- Ensure preventive maintenance is performed according to schedule;
- Implement various corporate initiatives such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, Internal Certification, etc.;
- Monitor and improve safety on the shop floor; eliminate any unsafe operations and ensure a safe and clean production environment;
- Evaluate, assess, and identify training needs of the workforce;
- Ensure training and effective utilization of work force;
- Monitor and evaluate employee performance;
- Meet schedules and production requirement to meet business needs.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Adjust section staffing to meet flow and customer requirement;
- Initiate and conducts process improvement dialogs with Production Supervisors and Team Members;
- Drive Root Cause identification. Drive Continuous Improvement process;
- Report production status, monitor and audit PQVC metrics;
- Assist with creating, training and implementing standard work.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Previous Manager Experience (Leader of Leaders);
- Requires thorough knowledge of manufacturing processes and tools, assembly operations, equipment and processes plus familiarity with materials and quality objectives
- Strong knowledge of PC/data entry;
- Intermediate level skills of Microsoft Office (Excel / Word / PowerPoint);
- Position should have a good working knowledge of labor rules and regulations;
- Ability to comfortably present to team members and other area Leaders;
- Strong interpersonal/communication/prioritization skills a must;
- Strong LN system knowledge;
- Strong organizational skills.
Working Conditions:
- Must also be able to perform the following for the duration of shift:
- Heavy manufacturing environment, subjecting employees to noise, vibration, and chemical elements;
- Will be working near moving mechanical parts, overhead cranes and lift truck traffic;
- Regularly required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls & reach with hands and arms;
- Continual use of ladders/platforms/stairs to access engine in various stages of assembly.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional lifting objects up to 35 lbs;
- Periodically walking short and long distances;
- Metatarsal safety shoes are required as well as safety glasses.
