The Product Safety and Compliance Specialist will report to the Director, Product Safety and Compliance and is responsible for providing regulatory oversight for product compliance related matters across the Shyft Group portfolio, conducting internal investigations, and, in particular, providing guidance on regulatory topics related to the Shyft Group’s electrical vehicle products.


Job Responsibilities


  • Facilitate a business culture focused on product safety and compliance.
  • Work with engineering and other functional teams to define regulatory and vocational requirements.
  • Work with engineering to define system level requirements.
  • Participate in Process/Design Failure Mode and Affects analysis.
  • Ensure Design Verification Plans and Reports are maintained and up to date.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements are passed to the supply base when required.
  • Oversee and support regulatory compliance related audits.
  • Work with operations to develop, and implement, production line control plans.
  • Lead certification activities related to EPA, CARB, and Transport Canada’s Appendix G.
  • Work with the Director, Product Safety and Compliance to create and provide regulatory training to employees, as needed.
  • Solve complex problems with minimal assistance.
  • Maintain a high degree of visibility and access to employees.
  • Filing required reports with applicable agencies.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in safety, engineering or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of five years related experience including working with federal agencies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated experience in personnel management.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task.
  • Innovative team player.
  • Intermediate computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Sound judgment and able to make and implement timely difficult, decisions.
  • Able to plan and handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.

  • Willing to travel as needed, at times on short notice.
