Product Development Engineer
WorldBridge Partners, an Executive Search Firm, is currently working with a Pennsylvania Steel Industry company that is seeking a product development Engineer.
Function:
The primary function of the Product Development Engineer is to take the customer’s conceptualized or fully defined product and design a method to manufacture at the company. The Product Development Engineer creates a product/process design that fulfills the company or customer strategic goals while integrating the needs of Sales and Operations. They oversee research and design, lead testing procedures and draft specifications for manufacturing. They direct the creation of trials or samples and fine-tune designs until they are ready for production. The Product Development Engineer reports to the Divisional Technical Services Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs initial research to identify the needs and goals for the new product from properties to function to appearance.
- Reads drawings of new product and analyzes for requirements.
- Determines the required capabilities and resources to perform acceptance testing and report results.
- Coordinates with customers, process engineers and suppliers to evaluate gaps that prevent success.
- Evaluates costs to purchase raw material, manufacture, and test the new product.
- Initiates FMEA, formulates a series of trials to vet assumptions.
- Works with Health, Safety, & Environmental to head off issues and develop comprehensive costs.
- Derives a best practice, creates the final manufacturing specification and procedures for manufacturing, and releases to production.
Education and Experience:
- BS/BE Degree in metallurgy or material science, or other engineering discipline plus relevant experience.
- Strong communication, decision-making, and organizational skills are required.
- A working knowledge and understanding of steel tubular products including end use applications, operations, and processes is preferred.
- Knowledge of GD&T and FMEA is preferred.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
