The student health physician reports to the Director of the Health Service.
Specific duties of the student health physician include:
- Provide out-patient ambulatory care for students with specific disease entities, injuries, minor surgical needs, and mental health problems;
- Perform physical examinations, such as pre-participation sports physicals and gynecological exams;
- Provide on-call services during evening and weekend hours during the regular academic school year;
- Work cooperatively with Nurse Practitioners and/or Physician Assistants acting as a supervisor/consultant;
- Refer patients requiring specialized care to competent consultants;
- Collaborate with the Counseling Center in providing medical treatment for their clients;
- Maintain confidential medical records which are completed in a timely manner;
- Attend and participate in administrative conferences, in-service, and continuing education programs;
- Act as a consultant and resource person for student and community health promotions, research projects, and health-related courses;
- Serve on Health Service and university committees, as appropriate;
- Adhere to regulatory guidelines and laws in the provision of care;
- Keep credentials file current and complete, complying with required criteria and annual updates;
- Accept other assignments as delegated by the Director of the Mary S. Shook Student Health Service.
