The Principal Software Engineer (Principal) will be responsible for designing, developing, unit testing and troubleshooting data-centric systems and AWS cloud-based applications. In addition, the right candidate will provide technical leadership and mentorship to more junior engineers.

This is an important, visible, roll-up-your-sleeves position that enables our biostatisticians, pharmacovigilance experts and epidemiologists to gain insights and critical knowledge, enabling them to make better decisions faster.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work together with the Sr/.Director, Software Engineering and the software development team to apply modern best practices to software design, development, testing and release in public cloud environments.
  • Help with creating a robust SDLC and ensure adherence to the framework.
  • Conduct software design and code reviews and arbitrate pull requests (PRs).
  • Ensure all major software systems and applications are documented adequately.
  • Create applications and tools for analytics and data science teams to assist them in building and optimizing our life sciences offerings
  • Promote software design, implementation and testing best-practices across the organization and help build a “culture of software”

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical abilities, strong technical acumen and judgment, intellectual curiosity, proven technical skills, and solid written and verbal communication skills. He/she will have a strong bias toward data-driven decision making.

Additional Experience and Qualifications

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other technical discipline.
  • 10+ yeas overall experience. Life sciences background preferred.
  • Experience in writing production-level Java and/or Python systems and applications.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and common databases.
  • Expertise in at least one high-level programming language, e.g., Python or Java and demonstrated proficiency in at least one other.
  • Proven experience delivering cloud-based applications to production on a regular basis.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Big Pluses
    • AWS development experience highly preferred
    • Familiarity working with sensitive data and with general HIPAA compliance
    • Working knowledge of clinical and pharma data
