Introduction

Northern Wisconsin Center (NWC) is recruiting to fill a Power Plant Operator – Senior in Chippewa Falls.

NWC is a short-term assessment and treatment facility for individuals who have an intellectual disability as well as a mental illness and aggressive or challenging behaviors. The programming is designed to prepare people to live successfully in a community setting. This full-time position will work a rotating schedule that consists of AM, PM, and NOC shifts. The position will work 7 days on and 2 days off, rotating between shifts each week.

Position Summary


This position is responsible for operating and maintaining high pressure steam boilers and related systems and equipment. The Power Plant Operator performs preventive and corrective maintenance of the Central Heating Plant, its equipment, and steam distribution systems. The incumbent is required to maintain a positive, cooperative, professional, and clean safe working environment.

Salary Information


Pay for this position is $25.60 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12- month probationary period may be required. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/15.

Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction.

Job Details


All applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the NWC or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

Employees are required to provide documentation of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by their start date. Exceptions will be granted to those who obtain an approved medical or religious accommodation or those who provide documentation requiring a delay in receiving the vaccine.

This position has physical requirements which may include but are not limited to: lifting, climbing, stretching, twisting, pulling, pushing, crawling in tight spots, and kneeling, crouching or lying flat for a period of time, etc.

Working conditions include: working in high temperatures with dust, dire, and high noise levels from equipment; contact with oil, grease or smoke; outdoor weather conditions; etc.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have:

  • Experience performing general maintenance and repairs utilizing basic power tools, hand tools, or motorized equipment.

Well-qualified applicants will also have:

  • Experience working in a power plant performing maintenance and repairs on power plant equipment.
