Job description
The power amplifier design engineer will develop high power PA circuits for use in 5G ORAN active antenna and radio products.
Responsibilities include:
- Architect cost-efficient, high-performance PA architectures for Radio Units
- Derive PA stage design specifications from system requirements
- Performance simulations to give high level of confidence in designs
- Create PA designs with DFx principles including Design for Manufacturability, Design for Test, Design for Cost
- Perform hardware verification, including integration with DPD to ensure performance
- Collaborate with supply chain and product engineering to ensure supplier and component selections are best in class performance, quality, and cost
- Provide production build support for the manufacturing partners of prototypes and volume ramp to production
- Actively follow latest industry PA component technologies to apply the latest innovations into the designs
Preferred Experience
- Proven track record from PA design engineering for 4G and 5G base stations in particular frequency ranges of <1GHz to 4GHz, and average power levels from 1w to 40w
- Working knowledge of 3GPP and FCC LTE/4G/5G standards and in particular emissions limits
- In-depth knowledge of linearization technologies such as Digital Predistortion and relation to PA characteristics
- Solid knowledge of PA design tools and methodologies, microstrip, stripline, lumped element and distributed matching networks
- Practical knowledge of PA testing and verification
- Experience designing cost-efficient manufacturing methodologies and technologies including board attach and PCB technologies for high power amplifier applications
- In-depth knowledge of LDMOS and GaN device technologies and Doherty amplifier and other efficiency enhancement techniques
- At least 5 years experience in the wireless telecommunication industry in leading or working level roles in radio development
Education
An undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering is required. A Master’s degree is strongly preferred with concentration in RF/Microwave circuits.
