Job description

We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) to study mechanisms of retinal neuronal and vascular injury, and pathological angiogenesis as seen in diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, retinopathy of prematurity, Alzheimer’s disease and Zika virus infection. In this position, the fellow is expected to conduct innovative research using well-established mouse models of these diseases, in vitro cultured cell lines/primary cells, advanced in vivo and in vitro imagines and functional tests, and/or molecular biology and biochemistry assays. Moreover, the fellow will have opportunities to work with experts at UTMB and other institutions in the Houston Area (e.g. Baylor College of Medicine, MD Anderson Cancer Center, UTHSC, etc) to use single-cell technology and omics approaches to investigate molecular and cellular mechanisms of these diseases. Under the mentor of the PI, the fellow will design and perform experiments, analyze data, present work in conferences, and publish results in peer-reviewed journals. The fellow will have opportunities to develop relative independent research projects and apply for postdoctoral fellowships or other training grants.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD, MD or Doctoral equivalent in any field. Scientific research experience.
