This position is located at the University of Houston Victoria Campus.

Serves as a commissioned law enforcement officer responsible for protecting persons and property for the University of Houston. Endeavors to detect and prevent crime in order to maintain peace, order and security.

  • Enforces all laws, including but not limited to, penal and traffic laws.
  • Patrols assigned area on foot or in a police vehicle.
  • Responds to all calls for assistance, service, and hazardous situations.
  • Conducts preliminary investigations of reported incidents, completes required reports.
  • Conducts crime prevention program presentations.
  • Attends required annual training seminars.
  • Utilizes police equipment such as firearm, baton, handcuffs, mobile and handheld radios, camera and other equipment.
  • Performs other job-related duties are assigned.

Qualifications


High school and No experience

Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED. No experience is required. Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on a job description addendum.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or GED.

Must be at least 21 years of age and have a clear Texas driver’s license.

The applicant must be TCOLE (formerly TCLEOSE) certified or be within 45 days of completing a TCOLE recognized basic peace officer licensing course.

Must pass a Criminal History and valid TX Driver’s License check prior to an interview.

Must be able to work nights, weekends and overtime assignments.

Must pass Background Investigation prior to employment.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Environmental:

The employee maybe exposed to inclement weather conditions; extensive public contact with student, faculty and staff. Employees are required to work various assigned shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends and may be required to remain at their post for an additional shift. All staff are “essential personnel” and are required to report to work during inclement weather.

Physical:

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability to work in a law enforcement setting and an office setting; restrain or subdue individuals; walk, stand, sit, or run for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; occasionally climb and balance; ability to operate and use specialized law enforcement tools and equipment.

Salary will be based on years of experience:

  • Police Officer less than 10 years of experience ($63,140.85-$69,454.94)
  • Sr. Police Officer more than 10 years of experience ($72,000.00-$79,200.00)
