ABOUT THE VILLAGE
The Village of Milford is 2.5 square miles nestled in
southwest Oakland County and is easily accessed from both
I-96 and M-59. With a population of 6,520, the Village
serves as the central business district for approximately
25,000 people in the surrounding areas. The thriving
downtown district draws visitors from communities such
as Ann Arbor and Dearborn, while retaining its small-town
charm.
The Village boasts six parks within its boundaries. Central
Park, located on the banks of the Huron River, is a favorite
with the children and teens who enjoy the playscape,
basketball courts, tennis court, volleyball court, and ice
rink. Fairgrounds Park is adjacent to the Senior Center for
easy access to a picnic area. Hubbell Pond Park is the site of
the YMCA and Library, and a trail system that runs from
Commerce Road all the way to Kensington Park on South Milford Road. The Village is part
of the Huron Valley School District with two elementary schools and one middle school
located within the Village.
The Village has 74 part-time and full-time employees and a total budget of approximately
$17.7 million in fiscal year 2022-2023.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Police Department is a Village department that also provides police services to Milford
Township. The total jurisdiction covered is 36 squared miles and 17,000 residents.
The Police Department resides in the civic center, connected to both the Village and
Township offices. The Department currently consists of a Police Chief sworn staff, police
service aides, police cadets, and administrative staff.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Village of Milford Police Department is seeking a self-motivated and reliable individual
for a part-time custodial position. This position would be responsible for maintaining the
Police Department’s standard of cleanliness as well as performing any additional duties
within the Village offices that may be assigned.
The primary cleaning functions of this role entail general cleaning (vacuuming, dusting,
mopping, washing, etc.), as well as sanitizing, restocking, spot cleaning. The custodian
would also be required to utilize machines such as a floor scrubber, burnishing buffer,
carpet cleaning, and power washer.
A successful candidate for this position would not only be able to accomplish the above
tasks efficiently and effectively, but they will be comfortable working within the setting of a
Police Department and able to complete tasks independently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS,
AND KNOWLEDGE
Applicants for the positions should
possess the following minimum
qualifications at the time of application.
Equivalent combinations of experience
and training may be considered.
Valid State of MI Driver’s License.
High School Diploma or GED.
Ability to pass a background check
that includes a criminal history
check, as well as a medical examination and drug test.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE
The following qualifications are not required for the position, but have been identified as
being desirable to the Department.
Ability and willingness to learn the operation and care of all janitorial equipment.
Ability to retain information and exercise care in the use of cleaning chemicals,
pesticides, and herbicides.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to undertake
responsibilities with some initiative and judgement.
Prior custodial experience preferred.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to
lift/push/pull/ and/or move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and occasionally more
than 50 pounds with mechanical or manual assistance, and typically involve some
combination of walking, standing or moving for extended periods of time, balancing,
climbing, bending, crawling, crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, reaching,
repetitive motion, and mental and visual acuity.
WAGES & SCHEDULE
The starting pay for this part-time position is $22 per hour. It is anticipated that this
position will have a regular schedule of 5-10 hours per week.
