PLTI & Community Engagement Program Coordinator

SCOPE OF WORK: Serves as Coordinator of the Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) at MCC, responsible for creating strong engagement with several key Manchester area groups. Will offer wrap-around education and services to families in the Manchester community that will lead to families understanding systems and develop civic, advocacy, community leadership, and higher education attainment. This position will report to the Vice President of Student and Community Development.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Serves as coordinator of the Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) housed at Manchester Community College and supported by Southern NH Services.
- Facilitates a process aimed to develop comprehensive education for parents of Manchester School district students to increase social mobility, and providing a new narrative around education and civic support.
- Provides administrative and budgetary duties and provides trainings,
- Responsible for finding partners, and working to promote parent leadership within the Institute and the community.
- Oversees all aspects of the training in partnership with an active volunteer/ alumnae CIVIC design team to embed PLTI in the greater community.
- Builds and leads the PLTI Civic Design Team which is a cross-section of community members committed to improving outcomes for families via apparent civic leadership.
- Serves as the point of contact for Summer programs for Manchester students including Gear Up, or other summer enrichment opportunities.
- Build and enhance connections with Gear Up Manchester students and parents to connect them with the PLTI, and with Manchester Community College.
- Work closely with the Manchester School District point person on Equity and Inclusion, linking services and opportunities for Manchester students and their parents within the district and at MCC.
- Partner with local non-profits to embed PLTI in the community, recruit parents for the PLTI and to engage in holistic family education and support.
- Promote the work being done at MCC through PLTI to partner with local organizations to support their work, and provide Manchester residents with the opportunity to attend MCC for credentialing or transfer opportunity.
- Serve as MCC’s connection to social service and educational organizations in the community. Ensuring consistency of messaging and marketing opportunities.
- Promote both credit and non-credit program offerings, with a focus on completion and workforce development.
- Complies with all system, College, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or technical institute with a major study in education, counseling, social work, Psychology, health care, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience: Three (3) years’ experience as a teacher, counselor, advisor, case manager or in a related non-profit or community engagement position. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal experience.
License / Certification: Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with parent education, or whole family educational best practices. Significant experience with a second language. Ability to meet people where they are and to treat all experiences and backgrounds with integrity and value. Work with underserved populations or social service organizations. Bilingual preferred.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Experience in building connections within communities focused on education, civics, and engagement. A focus on inclusion and equity in regards to race, religion, income, and sexual orientation. Considerable knowledge of current best practices in specialized field of work. Considerable knowledge of local social service organizations, and existing educational programs to connect with and build off of in the Manchester area. Ability to plan, supervise, coordinate and direct the work of others. Ability to make sound judgment in appraising situations and making routine decisions. Ability to follow specific instructions in gathering facts, data or resources in organizing required information. Ability to make decisions based upon fact-finding interviews within the parameters of the rules and policies of the college. Ability to meet with prospective students and explain programs sponsored by the department or college in which the position is located. Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
