Purpose of the Position

• Assemble, install, alter, and repair pipelines or pipe systems that carry water, steam, air, or other liquids or gases. May install heating and cooling equipment and mechanical control systems. Includes sprinklerfitters.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Installs, operates, tests, insulates and repairs pipe systems ranging in size from 1/4" to 30" in diameter flowing water, steam, petroleum, gas, air and waste; installs and repairs plumbing fixtures; plans and lays out work from blueprints, drawings, plans and other specifications; determines type and quality of materials; cuts, bends and threads pipe using hand or machine powered tools and equipment; attaches fixtures, valves, couplings, and fittings to pipes and tubing by various methods; tests and inspects systems for leaks, pressure and malfunctions; replaces defective pipes and fixtures; opens clogged drains; performs general maintenance work as required; overhauls pumps, valves and related controls. Assist or perform work of mechanical nature as required.
• All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED equivalent with successful completion of related vocational program.
• Minimum of 5 years directly related experience may be substituted for education requirement.
• Must be licensed by the State of Mississippi in the areas of pollution control, backflow prevention, wastewater treatment systems or certified in potable water system operation or must be certified as a drumwatcher for derrick operations.

Working Conditions

• Physical effort involving able average standing, sitting, walking or detail work.
• Occasional risk of injury due to hazards.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Dexterity to operate office equipment as required by the position.

Other Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain required NASA badge.
• Must be able to provide a certified Birth Certificate (with state seal), Passport, or INS Citizenship documents on date of hire (candidate will be sent home if this paperwork is not provided upon arrival on date of hire).
• Must have the ability to communicate the English language, both verbally and written, in an effective manner.
• Must have, and maintain, a valid driver’s license.
