JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction and general supervision of the Director of Physical Therapy, evaluate pediatric clients with physical and/or developmental delays, develop treatment plans and provide therapy services designed to maximize client functioning. Assist in developing staff in-service trainings, and maintain quality assurance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may also be assigned:
A. Direct Service:
1. Serve as a member of the Pediatric Services team and evaluate pediatric clients referred for Physical Therapy services using established evaluation procedures and standardized assessments.
- Develop individual treatment goals, plans and objectives based upon initial evaluations.
- Develop home and school programs and train family members, caregivers and school personnel to assist children with practicing assigned therapeutic activities as appropriate.
- Instruct clients, family members, caregivers and school personnel in the proper and safe usage of adaptive equipment.
- Evaluate and treat pediatric clients in various natural environments and settings including family’s home, community, schools, and Easter Seals clinics.
- Assist in the coordination of treatment and make appropriate referrals as needed.
- Comply with privacy laws and requirements under HIPAA regulations and understand the consequences of non-compliance.
- Follow all safety procedures as outlined by the Injury, Illness and Prevention Program (IIPP) Safety Manual and understand the consequences of non-compliance.
- Provide exceptional customer services, both internally and externally.
- Supervise physical therapy students, volunteers and physical therapy assistants as assigned.
B. Meetings and Documentation:
1. Attend and participate in pediatric staff meetings.
2. Attend and participate in physical therapy department staff meetings and in-services.
3. Meet with supervisor as requested.
4. Record client sessions, responses, and progress using required format.
5. Complete all paperwork in a timely manner per department protocol.
6. Develop and maintain client's progress reports and documentation, in coordination with the Pediatric team.
7. Attend IFSP, IEP and/or meetings as requested/directed.

A. Education and/or Experience:
1. Minimum education requirements via diploma from an accredited physical therapy program.
2. One (1) year of paid experience as a staff level Physical Therapist is preferred.
3. Experience in the evaluation and treatment of infants, toddlers and/or young children is preferred but not necessary.
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
1. Position requires licensure with the California Physical Therapy Board.
2. Position requires possession of a current valid California Driver's License, proof of insurance, and a driving record that meets the standards of the agency.
3. Position requires possession of a current certificate in Basic Life Support for Health Care Professionals; a high quality CPR with AED course for adults, children & infants. This level of certification must meet the Physical Therapy Board of California Continuing Competency requirements under §1399.93.
4. Position requires possession of a current certificate in Basic First Aid from an approved provider.
5. Position requires current fingerprint clearance and background check through the Department of Justice and FBI.
6. Position requires pre-placement physical and back assessment.
7. Position requires proof of negative TB test within the past twelve (12) months.
C. Working Knowledge of:

3. Principles and procedures of treatment planning and goal setting.
4. Physical therapy treatment techniques.

1. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
2. Follow written and verbal directions.
3. Effectively be able to present information and respond to questions from parents, staff, clients, regional center staff and the general public.
E. Mathematical Skills:
1. Calculate figures and amounts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
2. Ability to apply basic math concepts.
F. Reasoning Ability:
1. Ability to solve practical problems and use available resources.
2. Interpret and follow a variety of instructions provided verbally, written, in diagram and/or schedule form.
3. Maintain composure and good judgment under stressful conditions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, parents, consumers, regional center staff and the general public.
G. Other Skills and Abilities:
1. Maintain effective and professional working relationship with clients, families, care providers, school personnel and co-workers.
2. Plan, provide and evaluate treatments.
- Work and communicate as a member of a treatment team.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Operate vestibular equipment, gross and fine motor equipment, and adaptive equipment for daily living
- Provide active interaction with infants, toddlers, and/or young children for an extensive period of time.
- Computer literacy required.

A. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
- Walk, sit, stand and lift, or carry items not weighing more than 30 lbs.
- Push children in wheelchairs and safety lift and transfer individuals up to 100 lbs., without assistance.
- 3. Talk and hear.
- 4. Use hands and fingers to handle, feel objects, tools, or controls.
- 5. Reach for items, crouch or kneel.
6. Successful performance requires specific vision abilities that include close to far vision, with depth perception and visual accuracy.
7. Safely move and position large mats and therapy equipment as needed for client therapy.

A varied work environment is provided in family’s homes, community, clinics and classroom settings. Noise level is moderate and lighting conditions are good. Clinic, office areas and/or classroom size allows for wheelchair access and maneuverability. Meeting room facilities also provide wheelchair access.
