Position Summary: Join our team to help our middle school and high school students reach their potential as well as succeed in fulfilling their school requirements. This position is responsible for teaching and implementing a robust Physical Education and Character Development curriculum for students in grades 6th-10th.
Reporting to our Director of Physical Education and Sports this position is ideal for those passionate about sports and physical health as well as teaching and working with older youth.
HOURS: This is a part time morning position year with a schedule of Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:00am to 12:30pm; occasional Wednesdays, weekends and school holidays/vacations off.
- Teach Physical Education classes to students using sports and recreational activities to promote a variety of ways to lead active, healthy lives.
- Maintain sound records relating to specific program areas: class attendance, grading and participation, physical fitness test data, and others as assigned by the Director.
- Engage in active listening with students in order to build relationships, understand individual’s goals and interests, and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.
- Ensure highest program quality through careful supervision of the assigned physical education group including supervision of students while they are walking to and from school, using equipment in gym and in the fitness center.
- Maintain all program equipment and facilities.
- Participate in regular staff meetings and attend YMCA, collaborative and other meetings as requested by the Director.
- Communicate program information, problems and concerns to the Director as they occur.
- Remain current in required certifications and trainings including but not limited to: CPR, First Aid, O2, and all other required online trainings.
Job Requirements:
- Candidate must have 1-2 years of experience in teaching, coaching, sports, Physical Education, or related field.
- Appreciation of Physical Education as an essential element in a complete education.
- Ability to design and implement creative lesson plans utilizing coaching and facilitation skills with groups of 10-40 students.
- Desire to build relationships and make a positive impact in the lives of youth.
- Must have a high level of organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Must possess excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work as an integral member of the team.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Ability to interpret and carry out the mission and goals of the YMCA.
- Minimum of 20 years of age.
- High School Diploma.
