The role you’ll contribute:
The Phlebotomy Coordinator facilitates phlebotomy services throughout Shawnee Mission Medical Center by providing training & education to all laboratory and hospital staff. He/She promotes the delivery of high quality laboratory services to patients, clients and other customers. Responsible for daily coordination and direction of workflow at assigned site; monitors and ensures adequate staffing levels on a daily and shift basis.

- Anticipates, identifies and/or resolves problems related to customer satisfaction.
- Collects specimens from patient using age-appropriate techniques; labels and prepares specimens for transport; performs related data entry functions in a careful and timely fashion with scrupulous attention to identification and handling.
- Completes all necessary clerical duties in documenting workload and securing correct patient billing.
- Collaborates with nursing staff, clinical educators & lab leadership in the development, implementation & evaluation of phlebotomy program.
- Follows established safety & biohazard protocols.
- Organizes & prioritizes workflow to meet established turnaround times.
- Adjusts to changing customer needs by adapting work habits, schedules, or matters of personal convenience to improve service.
- Recognizes that the attainment of knowledge is every employee’s responsibility & accepts accountability for staying current on all written or electronic communication.
- Enhances technical & professional knowledge in one or more aspects of laboratory medicine by participation in mandatory & continuing education opportunities.
- Recognizes and supports cost-effective ideas and initiatives.
- Maintains appropriate level of inventory and stock within the draw stations.
- Maintain all patient information files related to phlebotomy services; updating as needed.
- Monitor all registrations for physician clinics and home health patients to ensure accurate billing records for optimal reimbursement of services.
- Understands & utilizes department resources, including department manuals, administrative policy manuals, safety manuals, MSDS & reference material.
- Conserves time for lab leadership by anticipating needs & researching questions & issues.
