Position Summary
This position provides the technical functions associated with the delivery of pharmacy services by maintaining proper stock levels in all pharmacy locations, compounding or otherwise preparing, filling, pricing, and delivering pharmaceuticals or other related items. The incumbent may perform duties such as entering prescriptions, completing reports, operating and maintaining automated dispensing devices, inputting computer data, and providing all aspects of customer service that are required to provide excellent pharmacy services. This position completes the essential functions of the job under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist.
Responsibilities:
Operations
1. Prepares prescriptions in an accurate and timely manner for Pharmacist review and verification
2. Participates in medication preparation to ensure accuracy prior to pharmacist review and verification.
3. Participates in day-to-day operations of the pharmacy that may include inventory maintenance, interactions with insurance companies, cash management and accurate and appropriate record keeping.
4. Triages telephone calls appropriately to the pharmacist on duty.
5. Conducts daily activities as they relate to the procurement, storage, preparation, distribution, compounding, and control of medications and supplies.
6. Accurately performs point of sale functions when processing prescriptions for payment.
7. Participates in non-sterile product preparation process and complies with controls and standards to safeguard the patient, care provider and employee.
8. Actively performs controlled substance procurement, documentation, storage, disposition and conducts usage audits upon direction of the pharmacist on duty.
9. Comply with the 340B program requirements and all related operational elements to ensure program integrity and optimization in coordination with the Director of Development / Grants Management and Pharmacy Services Manager.
Compliance
Assists in the, implementation, interpretation and revision of policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with all applicable state, federal, AAAHC, URAC, OSHA, HCFA and HIPPA rules, standards, regulations and laws as applicable. Obtains and maintains specific certifications as determined by business needs (i.e. DMEPOS), execute and manage a compliant 340B Drug Program in accordance with Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and Office of Pharmacy Affairs
(OPA) regulations.
Data Management
Demonstrates proficiency in the use of various health care and departmental information systems including:
1. Report generation and trending of various medication management data
2. Evaluation of new drug features and functionality as it relates to pharmacy information systems and technology that impacts the activities and services associated with pharmacy operations.
3. Evaluation of information systems and technology designed to improve pharmacy operations and patient safety.
4. Performs the collection of data from the quality control process and appropriately documents results as necessary.
5. Participates in the data collection and analysis of the KVHC programs.
Professional Development
1. Actively participates in department team member meetings.
2. Maintains professional development.
3. Actively participates in ad hoc committees and task forces. Actively participates in professional development programs.
Customer Service
Contributes to the partnership among care givers, patients and families to provide safe and effective care.
1. Performs additional duties or projects as assigned by the Pharmacy Director.
2. Adheres to all KVHC policies and protocols.
3. Complies with all safety rules and protocols. Reports all incidents, regardless of severity, immediately to supervisor and completes an incident reports and investigation form, which will be forwarded to Human Resources within 24 hours of the incident.
4. Be a good steward in the communities serviced by KVHC; represent the organization at outreach activities as needed.
Education and Experience
1. High school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience.
2. Licensed or eligible for technician licensure in the State of Maine.
3. Technician certification preferred; and required within 2 years of hire
4. Previous experience in ambulatory care pharmacy operations (i.e. retail, specialty) preferred.
5. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other members of the health care team, health system, educational and community leaders.
6. Evidence of excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
7. Will be On-Call as needed
8. Maintains all current credentialing requirements
9. Must possess a clean criminal and DHHS background.
10. Must possess the ability and means to travel between clinics as needed.
11. Valid State of Maine Driver’s license and ability to be insured by KVHC’s vehicle insurance carrier.
