Amistad’s Portland Peer Support Specialist
Amistad is a non-profit agency established in 1982. The agency provides progressive services based on a belief of equality for individuals with varying life challenges to move in the direction of their choosing.
Qualifications include:
- Must be a Certified Peer Support Specialist (CIPSS) by the state of Maine. A minimum of first-year provisional certification.
- Willingness to share lived experience with an awareness of personal boundaries and limitations.
- Employment references.
- Shared values as it relates to the Amistad Agency.
- Ability to perform medium physical work, i.e., mopping and lifting up to 50lb.
- Work with socially diverse populations.
- Agree to pass a background check.
Responsibilities include:
- Facilitation of peer-led self-help groups and activities at the Peer Center.
- Documentation of anonymous participation.
- Attendance of weekly staff meetings and daily staff check-ins.
- Facility maintenance and adherence to cleaning and safety protocols.
- Welcoming and engaging with peers new and old to the center, especially those who appear isolated.
- Organizing the use of facilities.
- Gently intervening when a behavioral situation with a peer or peers arises.
- Attending scheduled training arranged by the agency and maintaining certification requirements for IPS.
- Support peers using the model of Intentional Peer Support (IPS).
Part-time position (two days per week), no evenings or weekends! Excellent opportunity for growth!
