BASIC PURPOSE: Process assigned payroll in a timely and accurate manner while ensuring all payroll transactions adhere to company policies and government regulations including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and ensure that all shipside side employees are paid accurately and timely with the correct earnings, withholdings and deductions.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process payroll with various frequency schedules on a timely basis through the Payroll System for assigned areas allowing adequate time for direct deposit transactions, check printing and distribution. This includes the daily operation of assigned payroll (Shipside, etc).
  • Collect and analyze employee payroll data every pay period and audit monthly payroll received from Shipside payroll system. Review supporting documentation ensuring completeness and accuracy prior to processing while validating payroll preview reporting prior to submission.
  • Ensure the payment of payroll taxes and other payroll deductions such as life insurance, medical/dental insurance, garnishments, Union dues, etc. to vendors are processed. This includes wire requests via bank modules to release payments by compiling appropriate reports prior to submission for payment.
  • Work with other stakeholders such as HRIS on new system implementations and testing of new modules prior to production.
  • Maintain audit integrity by adhering to strict payroll controls and guidelines.
  • Monitor changes in laws and regulations pertinent to payroll, retirement and benefits.
  • Provide World Class customer service by addressing, researching, and resolving questions and queries submitted to the payroll team.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

EDUCATION: Associates Degree in Accounting or any equivalent combination of education and or relevant experience is required. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years of accounting and payroll experience is required. Shipside accounting and payroll experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Knowledge of payroll processes and systems. Knowledge of GAAP Fundamentals. Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley legislation is required. Working knowledge of PeopleSoft HR-Payroll and Financials systems and FIDELIO preferred. Experience working with Unions, Collective Bargaining Agreements and Employment Contracts preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required for complex payroll analyses and GL Account Reconciliations and Essbasse. Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint for presentations to senior management. Advanced auditing skills required in order to audit Payroll. Excellent analytical skills to summarize & present findings on an ongoing basis, not limited to but including analyses of P&L expenses. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to effectively interact with team members from various departments. Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment with changing deadlines and priorities. Excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees. Ability to maintain confidentiality in dealing with personnel/payroll matters
