Equivalent ExperienceThe Payroll Manager will have the overall responsibility for the management of information, systems, staff, policies and procedures as they relate to the issuance of the payroll and payroll tax data in the United States and Canada. Supervises, organizes, directs and distributes work among department personnel to ensure that the payrolls are computed and distributed to employees on an accurate and timely basis. Key responsibilities include the management of employees involved in Payroll Administration Payroll Tax, Compliance, Strategic Leadership, as well as critical subject matter project support in IT, Payroll, Tax, new business, and compensation projects.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Overall responsibility for the management of a complex payroll operation, within a multi-state, multi-country, high-volume payroll environment.
2. Responsible for organizing, directing, training, and distributing work among payroll personnel to ensure the accurate and timely distribution of payroll among all locations in North America.
3. Must be proficient in Microsoft applications. Experience with SAP is required. CPP is preferred.
4. Assures the accuracy and integrity of all payroll data documentation, including policies and procedures. In-depth knowledge and experience of payroll calculations and processes, along with accounting principles and practices.
5. Manages the preparation and approval of all payroll International/Federal/State Tax reports due to governmental agencies, processed internally and by third-party tax service.
6. Communicate to all operations any procedural changes, system enhancements, and reporting needs as required for payroll.
7. Responsible for operating in a Shared Services model which includes the payroll processes within the SAP Human Resource Management System.
8. Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects, including but not limited to mergers and acquisitions, system enhancements, and system upgrades.
9. Develops and recommends policies, procedures, and practices related to the management of payroll data.
10. Analyzes the effect and make recommendations related to proposed legislation, laws, regulations, union contract provisions, legal opinions, and legal decisions that impact the payroll process.
11. Stimulate teamwork and promote cohesiveness to achieve unit goals. Manage performance and develop the team.
12. Responsible for keeping department desk procedure manuals updated as needed.
13. Responsible for the monthly reporting of KPI’s and SLA’s
Additional Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business required
- 5+ years of Payroll Management experience
- Broad knowledge of payroll procedures within an SAP, multi-country environment
- Strong supervisory level skills
- Understanding of multi-state and international payroll (US & Canada) and the ability to manage a high volume payroll (9,000+ employees)
- CPP Certification is preferred
- Knowledge of intricacies of large database payroll systems, as well as demonstrated system capabilities to evaluate, integrate, and operate management information systems
