The Payment Billing Refund Specialist is responsible for the timely and accurate resolution of insurance and patient credit balances.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review of all payments and adjustments that have been applied to a charge line, which resulted in the credit balance, to determine appropriate resolution.
- Process refunds either by paper check or by credit card.
- Compile and save supporting documentation for insurance refunds and overpayment letters.
- Review and resolve any refund correspondence and returned mail.
- Print refund checks as well as overpayment letters and all supporting documentation.
- Manage outgoing refund mail.
- Maintain or exceed productivity goals and quality standards.
Education/Licensing/Certification:
- High School Diploma (or equivalent) required
- Minimum two years prior Medical Billing Experience
- Minimum two years payment posting or refund experience
- Ability to type a minimum of 45 wpm
- Working knowledge of EOB’s, EFT’s and ERA’s
- Ability to navigate multiple payer and credit card vendor websites
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
