FULL JOB DESCRIPTION:
POSITION SUMMARY:
  • Provides administrative support for Bay Area Hospital Cancer Center.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Answers multi-lined telephone system, takes telephone referrals, schedules patient appointments
  • Provides secretarial/receptionist services for Bay Area Hospital Cancer Center in an efficient and professional manner
  • Contacts insurance providers, obtaining appropriate referral numbers, pre-authorizations, and pre-certifications for Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology
  • Responsible for helping patients with financial assistance paperwork
  • Keeps track of patients Oral Chemotherapy paperwork and processing
  • Works with the Hospital Epic, MOSAIQ and registers patients, obtains admission and billing information, orders lab work, and distributed reports
  • Verifies patients’ demographics and insurance information
  • Ensures assigned areas are adequately stocked, clean and orderly
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventative maintenance; calling for repairs
  • Provides support for the Bay Area Hospital Cancer Center staff, including physicians as requested
  • Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing the patient, reviewing and/or recording medical history, intake of current medications, taking accurate patient weight, taking vital signs, and confirming the purpose of the visit or treatment
  • Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations
  • Organizes patient scheduling, prepares patient charts, retrieves, and files patient medical records, x-rays, and other medical images. Maintains all files and keeps filing up to date
  • Types memorandums, committee minutes, manuals, letters, forms, procedures, and other general typing as requested
  • Orders supplies as requested
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position
  • Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment
  • Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public
  • Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision
  • Medical Terminology
  • Maintains regular, consistent, and punctual attendance at the assigned job location
  • Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES/DEGREES:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certified Medical Assistant certification preferred
  • College level education in secretarial sciences preferred
  • Completion of basic medical terminology
EXPERIENCE:
  • One (1) year recent medical front office experience preferred
