Job description
- Conducts a comprehensive literacy and educational/vocational assessment to develop a plan of service to meet client needs
- Identifies post secondary transition programs and assists out of school youth and adults to obtain a NYS High School Equivalency diploma and succeed in post secondary education, apprenticeship programs or training
- Communicates effectively and collaborates with staff and instructors to ascertain barriers that specific students may be experiencing that prevent them from meeting their educational needs
- Collaborates with and refers students to various community partners for wrap around services including health literacy, financial literacy, family literacy, and more
- Researches and assists students in aquiring related supportive services such as one-stop career counseling, transportation, public assistance and child care
- Facilitates and/or coordinate various workshops/information sessions
- Coordinate quarterly partner advisory meetings within LZ target area, coordinate and host a bi-annual career and resource fair
- Supervise part-time LZ resource specialist and LZ data assistant
- Maintains case records by documenting client's situations/progress
- Monitors clients planned actions by periodic follow up
- Inputs client related data into ASISTS database and provide statistics and reports as needed
- Performs other tasks deemed necessary to assist in achieving service and programmatic goals
- Participate in a minimum of 14 hours of professional development
Qualifications:
- Some college credits or Bachelor's degree in Education or related field preferred or minimum of 2 years working in adult education.
- Relevant experience in counseling individuals and/or facilitating information sessions
- Experience working directly with families of diverse demographics and cultures
- Strong awareness of the barriers facing adult basic education students looking to integrate into the workforce and academic environment
- Must have good knowledge of the available educational, training, and employment resources
- Good knowledge of labor market trends and requirements and the skill, abilities and experiences required in a wide variety of occupations specifically healthcare
- Initiative and resourcefulness; tact and courtesy
- Available to work alternate Saturdays, evenings, and day shifts
- Familiar with community
- Good judgement and problem solving ability
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Google Drive, Outlook, and social media
- Knowledge of databases such as ASISTS
This is a part-time grant funded position funded through June 30, 2023. Hours for this position are up to 19 hours per week at $35 per hour. Renewal is contingent upon work performance.
