Job description
Leads and participates in the work of employees engaged in the installation, maintenance, and renovation of turf and activities associated with special events, athletics and park construction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead and participate in the work of employees engaged in installation, maintenance, and renovation of turf and activities associated with special events, athletics and park construction;
- Lead and participate in setting up for special events;
- Assist in interviewing, hiring, evaluating and training employees;
- Requisition necessary supplies and parts for assignments, maintain an adequate inventory for timely repairs;
- Assist in developing and implementing preventive maintenance and operations schedules;
- Assist in training CDL drivers in proper driving and equipment operation methods. Assist in training employees in City policies and procedures related to safe work environments, environmental compliance, vehicle safety,
pesticide laws, Endangered Species Act and the Wetlands Act; - Prepare written reports and/or give oral presentations regarding maintenance and construction activities;
- Inspect and evaluate parks and equipment to determine schedules, priorities, and future needs;
- Respond to citizen complaints or inquiries regarding conditions and/or activities in parks;
- Perform related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
- Turf maintenance principles such as weed control, irrigation, equipment maintenance, fertilization, turf establishment and renovation.
- Lead the work of others;
- Estimate labor, materials and tools necessary for projects;
- Keep accurate records of expenditures;
- Use approved purchasing procedures to procure materials and supplies;
- Operate a variety of equipment used in the establishment, maintenance and renovation of turf.
- Troubleshoot and repair various equipment used in turf maintenance.
- Work under a timeline.
- Follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Frequently stand and walk during the shift;
- Frequently sit, bend, and kneel during the shift;
- Frequently climb ladders, scaffolding stairs or inclined surfaces.
- Continuously lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
- Frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds;
- Occasionally lift and carry 50 pounds to 100 pounds;
- Frequently push and pull objects;
- Frequently flex upper trunk at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
- Frequently move entire body along a surface in a crawling motion.
- Continuously rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
- Place arms above, at, or below shoulder height;
- Coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle or equipment.
