As a Paramedic, you will play a critical role in continuing the healing mission of Deaconess.
Job Overview:
Under the supervision of the RN, the Paramedic performs various care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, comfort and safety of Emergency Department patients. The Paramedic provides assistance to other professional staff and works under the direction of the registered nurse. The Paramedic has a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field in the Emergency Department/Pre-hospital care setting. Indiana State Paramedic licensure is required. The Paramedic will use evidence-based practices when providing patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN). The Paramedic must be able to demonstrate growth and development knowledge and skills to provide patient care based on age-specific competencies for the patient served. Employee must be able to successfully complete job specific orientation, competencies, and meet/exceed standards as identified in the criteria based performance appraisal
The Paramedic is responsible for delivering and administering high quality care and transportation to ill and injured persons. All EMS employees must demonstrate clinical competency and compassion in providing for the physical and emotional needs of patients. Within the Deaconess Gateway EMS department, we strive to help our staff be successful and confident with any position they hold.
The Gateway Emergency Department (ED) is a Primary Stroke Center. This 38-bed unit includes 3 critical care rooms, multiple isolation rooms, one decontamination room, one OB/GYN exam room, one SANE room, discharge lounge, and a diagnostic x-ray suite. The ED includes a reception area, two triage bays, a patient/family lounge and a “quiet room”. The Emergency Department provides diagnosis, treatment, patient education and referral services to nearly 50,000 patients yearly ranging in age from infant, child, adult or geriatric with a real or perceived emergency condition.
Certifications
- Current licensure as a Paramedic in the State of Indiana.
- Obtain/maintains current certification in
- BLS
- ACLS
- PALS
- PHTLS
- Advanced Splinting Course
- 12-Lead Course
Education and Experience
- Successfully completes Emergency Department orientation program, minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related field in a hospital or pre-hospital care setting, successful completion of hospital/department required classes/competencies.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Current IN Certification/License at the level applied for, from an accredited program.
- Current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card required.
- Paramedics must have current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
- Paramedics must have PHTLS or equivalent certification within 18 months of hire. NREMT certification preferred.
- Must have a current, non-suspended or revoked, IN driver’s license and have an insurable driving record with minimum driving infractions.
- Proof of training in Emergency Vehicle Operations - EVOC within 18 months of hire.
- Physically and mentally able to safely perform the responsibilities and duties of the position.
- Strong written and oral communications skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Able to read and write, have reliable transportation, and good attendance.
- Able to stand for long periods of time and be able to push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Able to speak English fluently and be able to communicate effectively.
