Paralegal Position Summary:

Provides paralegal services to Port Houston attorneys and staff. Prepares and reviews legal documentation under attorney supervision, as required in the operations of Port Houston.

Preferred Experience:

For this opening, the ideal candidate will have experience:

· Assisting with all stages of claims and litigation;

· Using e-discovery platforms, such as Relativity;

· Preparing requests for and responses to discovery requests and subpoenas;

· Locating, organizing, reviewing, and maintaining information responsive to discovery requests and subpoenas;

· Coordinating meetings, interviews, depositions, mediations, and other proceedings;

· Monitoring the status of claims and maintaining a claims and litigation database; and

· Assisting with the review of contracts, procurement documents, and outside attorney billing.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:

· Assist Port Houston attorneys in providing paralegal assistance, advice, and research, and preparing and reviewing legal documentation, under attorney supervision

· Provide paralegal assistance, advice, and information to Port Houston staff, under attorney supervision

· Provide paralegal assistance on behalf of the Port Houston in transactions, disputes, and administrative matters, under attorney supervision

· Review and prepare legal and business documents, under attorney supervision

· Research legal, governmental, and business matters, and prepare memoranda regarding such matters, under attorney supervision

· Assist with the preparation of agendas, briefing books, and minutes of the Port Commission and its committees and task forces

· Assist attorneys and work with Port Houston staff to analyze, compile, and formulate responses to Texas Public Information Act requests

· Provide assistance and information to outside counsel as directed by Port Houston attorneys

· Provide assistance and information to Port Houston stakeholders, under attorney supervision

· Research and maintain familiarity with legislation, court decisions, and regulatory matters

· Create, update, and maintain legal files and filing systems

· Perform other paralegal duties, under attorney supervision

· Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)

· Perform administrative and other duties as required by Port Houston attorneys and requested by other staff

Education/Experience:

· Associate’s degree from an accredited academic institution required

· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited academic institution preferred

· 5+ years of combined experience in a law department, law firm, or business, or equivalent administrative duties preferred
