Job description
1. Understand what is being used today, as a benchmark, by individual product:
a. List each SKU, group like-items, determine volume and/or cost/spend to prioritize items (Data Management, Marketing). Customers will need to be notified once new packaging rolls into production (Marketing).
i. Collaboration between Marketing, Sourcing, Supply Chain, Data Management, and Sales to perform a SKU ratification.
b. Determine packaging type – corrugate box and style (i.e., RSC, wrap around, etc.), folding carton, plastic bag, etc. (Sourcing/Supplier)
i. Gather all packaging data available: weight, dimensions, ID/OD, printing process, ECT value, flute type, mil thickness, polymer type and thickness
ii. Will the primary pack be placed in a master carton? Define quantity based on Marketing/Sales needs and optimal pack-out.
c. Package closure – tape, glue, staple, heat seal (for plastics), Packaging Engineer will need to define this standard based on customer needs and product/packaging type and shipping method.
d. Type of sale – commercial or retail
i. Who is the end user? What is their experience with the product and package, meaning, ease of opening and use, timing?
ii. If Retail, is the product presented on a display or on the shelf?
e. Logistics (shipping) channel – palletized, domestic/international, small parcel, 3rd party sales once it leaves Carrier’s network.
f. Automation or hand-packed, same for palletization.
g. Define the supplier (via Sourcing)
i. Determine cost and package budget - Marketing and Sourcing
1. “Nice to have” – product price point
ii. Location in relation to manufacturing
iii. Other variables determined by Sourcing
h. Product weight with and without final packaging.
i. Define whether the package contains hazardous material
j. What information does the package need to display? Graphics or label only. Graphic Designer, Marketing
k. Barcoding or other tracking method? Data Management, Supply Chain
i. SKU assignment, data management software, GTIN info
l. Do we utilize a co-packer for any reason?
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per hour
