Summary of the main function/purpose of the position:


The main purpose of this position is to screen, assess and provide services to participants that have been identified as appropriate for also receiving legal services through Bay Area Legal Services SafeNet program. Provides services to general outreach participants and phone callers as well.


Principal duties/responsibilities:


  • Schedules intakes with participants referred by Bay Area Legal Services who have been targeted to receive services through the SafeNet Program. Works with individual participants to analyze and assess the lethality of the home situation and actions of the abuser. Assesses the victim's individual strengths and needs, identifies drug abuse and/or mental health issues present, offers options and assists the consumer in selecting from the options available. Coordinates services with appropriate community resources and refers participants and children to necessary support services.
  • Continuously safety plans with all participants at every contact.
  • Maintains contact with participants to review progress towards achievement of individual established goals.
  • Maintains written records required for statistical reporting. Compiles statistical information of services rendered and submits such information to the supervisor.
  • Completes intake documents and procedures.
  • Maintains participant files and ensures data is entered into WS as soon as possible after all participant contact.
  • Submits documentation to Bay Area Legal Services as requested for the completion of all required reports to grantors.
  • Maintains communications with Bay Area Legal Services regarding participants case, follows up with obtaining documentation when needed.
  • May meet with participants at off-site locations if safe to do so.
  • Accompanies participant to court hearings.
  • Provides transportation to participants to court when needed.
  • Prepares and presents thorough and accurate reports and interprets the victim's situation with regard to the lethality of the abuser. Consults with supervisor on these off-site meetings and court accompaniment.
  • Facilitates outreach's DV support groups to Spanish speaking participants every Thursday morning.
  • Has a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, service programs, confidentiality and privilege.
  • Attends agency meetings and all other meetings as assigned.
  • Service management and documentation meets FCADV program standards.
  • Completes and reports on all assessment tools and outcomes required by grant contracts.
  • Consults with supervisor on a regular basis, regarding all agency, participant, and service management issues.
  • Flexibility with schedule.

Occasional duties or projects which may be performed at irregular intervals:

  • Assists with the completion of petitions for Injunctions for Protection: the assistance, filing, and follow up with the court house on these petitions.
  • Assists with training new staff, volunteers and interns, as assigned.
  • Assists in covering other groups as needed.
  • Assists with covering front desk when needed.
  • Assists participants on other advocates case-loads as needed.
  • Assists with community presentations and training as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as requested.


III. Accountability: Areas in which the position is accountable/responsible:


Participant Service: Maintains participant satisfaction and quality of services.

Records: Maintains complete and up to date participant files by entering data into WS, master list, and files as soon as possible after all contact. Assists with statistical reporting and other assessments as required.

Prohibited Functions:

  • Does not respond to requests from the media
  • Does not provide any service which could be interpreted as practicing law


  • Educational and/or equivalence in experience requirements:


Bachelor's degree and two years of experience preferred.

Certification or licensing requirements:

  • Requires 24-hour FCADV Core Competency training and additional 6-hours (30-hours total) to qualify for privilege status.
  • Requires on-going 16-hours of DV related training after the first year.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
