• Communicate with patients and on the phone.
• Appropriately document and report payment information.
• Educated patients about payment options and financial assistance, Recommend appropriate programs to assist with patients medical expenses and become familiar with government programs that assist with medical bills.
• Negotiate and strategize patient payment arrangements.
• Update patient accounts and balances.
• Utilize IPas program to create estimates for all tests and procedures for hospital patients.
• Contact patients to notify them of high out-of-pocket liabilities, and to establish/enforce compliance with hospital financial policies.
• Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.
• Provides exceptional customer service to consumers which establish a positive first impression of Delta Health.
• Knowledgeable of current contracted and non-contracted healthcare insurance plans.
• Thorough understanding and working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding.
• Training resource for new staff and a resource for coworkers, sharing process and workflow information.

• High School graduate or equivalent required.
• Must have ability to read, write and follow instructions.
• Ability to accurately type 35 words per minute required.
• Two years of clerical experience preferred in a medical billing setting with patient contact.
• Be familiar with Excel, Word, Outlook, knowledge of Meditech billing software helpful.
• Medical terminology preffered. Possess good communication skills both verbal and written.
• Have good telephone skills.
• Have a working understanding of different payors and their requirement for payment.
• Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a professional manner in sometimes difficult or emotional situations.
• Ability to work well as a team member required.

This employee works closely with the pre authorization teams, schedulers, patients and registration clerks with assistance from billing to create estimates for point of service collections. Understands minimum data set required for a complete registration, collects and verifies critical data and updates that information into Meditech registration system.
