POSITION PURPOSE
The role of the Operations and Safety Coordinator is to provide necessary support to the Operations Manager to ensure a variety of documentation systems is maintained. These systems include, but not limited too; documentation for safety and environmental programs, quality assurance, training, inventory, accounting, purchasing and receiving. Assists with administrative work in relation to various human resource support operations including maintaining job descriptions and organizational charts. Provides support to recruitment processes by posting job openings, scheduling interviews and handling routing applicant correspondence. Process accounts payable invoices and insure correct payments are processed per purchase order line items and totals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains all documents associated with the OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 systems
  • Coordinates with employees to ensure the cleanliness and general housekeeping of the building and equipment are maintained
  • Assists Safety, Environmental, and Quality Managers in regards to management reviews, weekly reporting, safety conference calls, off-site meetings, etc
  • Ensures Contractors are in compliance with SSAB policies and procedures (Browz system)
  • Assists Safety Committee in development of Business Safety Plans and monitors progress throughout year
  • Implements continual improvement initiatives as directed by the Operations Manager
  • Maintains and assist in correct documentation of Safety, Environmental, and Quality SharePoint sites
  • Manifests and tracks removal of hazardous wastes and is the Operations back-up for any interaction with government agencies
  • Maintains MSDS program at facility
  • Takes part in all audits of safety, environmental, and quality systems
  • Takes part in facility insurance inspections and tracks associated corrective actions
  • Other administrative duties as assigned
  • Support facility compliance with environmental regulations:
  • Ensure requirements of permits and written programs are followed
  • Maintain regular contact with operations personnel
  • Conduct routine inspections of mill operations and other assigned facilities
  • Maintain and update written procedures in SSAB Americas’ ISO 14001 EMS procedures manual
  • Support management in the preparation and filing of required reports
  • Gather necessary data for all required reports
  • Comply with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies’ filing requirements
  • Support SSAB Texas spill response program:
  • Maintain and update MSDS for all products used onsite
  • Ensure compliance with Community Right to Know regulations
  • Assist with annual chemical reporting
  • Function as onsite coordinator in the event of a reportable spill
  • Audit onsite contractors and contractor facilities to ensure compliance with SSAB Americas’ requirements and procedures

TRAINING PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES

  • Coordinates all training initiatives as directed by the Operations Manager
  • Assist the with scheduling training activities at the Texas facility
  • Tracks all training documentation
  • Assist with the creation of training rosters
  • Maintain employee records of completed training activities
  • Create and distribute completion certificates
  • Assist Employees with the company’s tuition reimbursement program

QUALIFICATIONS

Competencies and Experience

Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and computer skills.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Internal auditor experience

Preferred:

  • ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 internal auditor experience

Education
Required:

  • Associates Degree
