Title: Occupational Safety and Health Intern, Summer 2023

Internship Summary:
Kuraray's paid internship program allows students the opportunity to obtain valuable, applicable work experience in a fast-paced, and challenging environment. The program blends real world experience with an extensive overview of the chemical industry. Knowledgeable mentors will provide guidance as you gain professional hands-on experience. The internship will be three to four months in duration for the Summer of 2023 with flexible start dates. Student interns must be able to work full time. The internship will be split between a major project and daily tasks.
The program will provide hybrid/remote work opportunities for some positions where students will be able to work part of the time from their home and from the office.
No Housing will be provided as part of the internship.
The EVAL Occupational Safety and Health intern will Support ongoing safety activities at the EVAL site for compliance with OSHA 1910 regulations, and the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care 14001 process. These responsibilities will include working with the HSE and production teams to drive the application of safety procedures in the field through audits, developing and delivering safety training, and working with the Contractor Safety Supervisor to ensure contractor safety information is accurate and updated. Finally, Intern will be exposed to other areas of HSE, including process safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental, and have the opportunity to participate and grow in these areas.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct field permit audits
- Assist with developing Safety training
- Assist with document control and recordkeeping
- Participate as a member of the EVAL Safety Committee
- Participate as a member of the Job Observation program review committee
- Participate in safety related incident investigations
- Participate in pre-startup safety reviews
- Review and update the EVAL Aspects and Impacts
- Complete assigned action items as applicable
- Update documentation including procedures, standards, etc as applicable
- Attend all required meetings per job responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- Pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent.
- Completed at least one year of college education before beginning internship, with at least three Safety classes completed.
- Strong academic performance minimum 3.0/4.0 GPA and extracurricular achievement.
- Demonstrated communication and leadership skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and proven track record of adaptability, innovation, initiative and integrity.
- Must have legal U.S. working authorization to participate in the program.
- Must successfully pass pre-employment screening process.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
