JOB SUMMARY AND SCOPE

The Clinical Coordinator/Obstetrics Manager reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer and is accountable for monitoring and maintenance of quality items and initiatives, scheduling, coordination of staff education and acts as a liaison for patients, nursing staff and physicians. Other responsibilities include assistance with and participation in the direction of age appropriate service line activities, staffing, scheduling and resource allocation for clinical care of patients, critical evaluation and decision making within evidence based standards of care, policies and procedures as well as other duties assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer. Position requires the ability to support in the development of as well as maintenance of a highly functional team of professionals with Patient Centered focus on Quality & Safety.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Accountable for the participating in the oversight of the Nursing staff and Certified Nurse Aides
  • Participates in the daily operations of the unit
  • Participates in the development of unit strategic planning, personal and staff development to assure current practice awareness.
  • Fiscal & Clinical Stewardship – Demonstrated ability to calculate and develop appropriate staffing plan for all areas of responsibility. Understands and supports organizational budget goals.
  • Deep understanding of Maine Nurse Practice Act, Evidence Based Practices and any Compliance standards relating to areas of responsibility. Assists in ensuring that Nursing Practice Standards, health, and safety requirements are met. Facilitate departmental compliance with all applicable accreditation standards, as well as applicable federal, state and local statues, ordinances, laws, rule and regulations. Assists in ensuing that staff is consistently updated & educated with regard to the aforementioned.
  • Assists the CNO in completing all evaluations on time.
  • Creates, revises and disseminates departmental policies and procedures
  • Functions as a resource person to nursing staff (or directs them to appropriate person) when unusual or unfamiliar situations arise
  • Instructs staff on utilization or new procedures or equipment
  • Refers staff to appropriate resources
  • Collaborates with and encourages staff members in developing creative, evidence-based approaches to the care of the patient.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in age appropriate assessment and intervention skills
  • Mentors staff to develop professionalism, autonomy and care excellence.
  • Serves as a role model for nursing staff
  • Identifies problem areas, encourages staff input, and makes recommendations for resolution
  • Communicates in a clear and articulate manner
  • Actively engages in Interdisciplinary activities to enhance patient care excellence.
  • Interviews patients and participates in service recovery
  • Actively responds to any data reflecting quality of care.
  • Utilizes quality assurance and quality improvement measures to consistently improve care/
  • Initiates, monitors and actively addresses opportunities for care or departmental improvement.
  • Consistently models Patient Centered safety and quality behaviors
  • Actively engages staff input relating to departmental improvement projects.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND ENVIRONMENT

Clinical: Frequently lifts up to 35 pounds independently. Frequently pushes/pulls 100 pounds using mechanical and other assistive devices. Walks, stands, kneels, bends most of the time. Exhibits fine motor skills and manual dexterity necessary to perform the essential job functions of the position. Visual acuity correctable to 20/20. Color vision is necessary. Normal hearing acuity.

Exposure Category I: Employee at risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

  • Maintains current knowledge of the hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program.
  • Develops and implements appropriate quality improvements for the department.
  • Develops quality initiative projects and the methods necessary for initiating, testing, data collection, analysis, and reporting the effectiveness of the project.
  • Establishes indicators to monitor departmental service in response to complaints, identified problems, variances, sentinel events, or new services as well as patient outcome oriented indicators for high volume and/or high risk services.
  • Reports all Quality Improvement activities, measurements and results according to the established reporting structure.
  • Participates in the annual review of the Quality Improvement/Patient Safety Program.
  • Participates as a member of functional and/or process improvement team as appropriate to position or requested.
  • Provides Quality Improvement orientation, training, and continuing education for all departmental staff.
  • Involves all departmental staff members in the Quality Improvement Program’s plans and processes.
  • Is accountable for identification and mitigation of risks and hazards within the department.

COMPLIANCE

  • Adheres to the federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
  • Adheres to the Compliance Program policies and procedures of Down East Community.
  • Adheres to all Privacy and Security policies and procedures of Down East Community.
  • Communicates any concern related to compliance issues to Compliance Officer.
  • Communicates any concern related to confidentiality issues to the Privacy Officer.
  • Educate, train, and supervise staff on all related compliance issues.
Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine
  • BLS required; ACLS & NRP to be achieved within six months of hire
  • Excellent understanding of Patient Centered Care
  • Commitment to the role of Nursing in Safety & Quality
  • 3-5 years nursing experience in the obstetrics specialty
  • Demonstrated clinical proficiency delivering age appropriate, evidenced based care of patients within the Nursing process.
  • Well developed, mature leadership skills, excellent communication skills, EHR experience, ability to multi-task, solution focused, creative.
  • Demonstrated autonomy and ability to function effectively and productively within an Interdisciplinary team.
  • An enthusiastic, ethical nurse with leadership skills.
