PROGRAM SUMMARY: Easterseals Head Start/Early Head Start provides high-quality, family-centered education for children birth to five years old. We collaborate with 40+ early childhood programs located in the city of Chicago and suburban Cook County to promote school readiness in young children of all abilities from families with incomes below poverty guidelines. Easterseals also directly operates two Early Learning Centers in Head Start/Early Head Start in Chicago and in Hickory Hills.
POSITION LOCATION: This position is located at the Easterseals Early Learning Services Headquarters at 1939 W. 13th Street, Chicago 60608.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Nurse Consultant provides consultative services to address the health needs of pregnant women, children, and families enrolled in the Head Start and Early Head Start programs, in compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards.
MAJOR FUNCTIONS/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Provide consultative services to management staff, including assisting with the development and review of health policies and procedures
- Interpret federal, state, and local health regulations and standards
- With home-based staff, conduct a home visit within two weeks postnatal after each pregnant woman gives birth; complete well-being assessment on mother and infant
- Provide parent workshops on health and prenatal topics that are responsive to families' needs and interests
- Conduct training for site staff and Easterseals staff
- Consult with staff and parents regarding individual child health-related concerns
- Serve on the Health Services Advisory Committee
- Attend meetings and training as requested
- Produce reports as requested
- Travel to Easterseals locations, partner sites, and homes as needed
- All other duties as assigned
Education/Certification:
- LPN or RN
Experience Required:
- 2 years experience in pediatric, women’s health, or public health nursing
- Head Start/Early Head Start experience preferred
Required Knowledge:
- EPSDT
- MS Office
Vehicle/Transportation Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license
- Auto insurance
- Reliable vehicle
