Purpose and Scope
To support the mission of the Office of Natural Family Planning (NFP), this position is directly responsible for providing online client instruction in the Northwest Family Services Sympto-Thermal method of NFP for the Diocese of Phoenix.
Essential Job Functions

- Welcomes each online client with phone call and/or Welcome Email and maintains contact via encrypted email with all online clients, replying to questions promptly.
- Daily logs onto Northwest Family Services (NWFS) SymptoPro Course Host site to check on clients’ progress.
- Establishes and maintains word document files for answering typical client questions for various client circumstances and can select and edit responses to fit the individual client’s needs.
- Encourages couples in living the teachings of the Catholic Church by helpful email messages, and attachments of helpful articles regarding human sexuality, marriage and family life in the replies that are sent.
- Screens for clients with special-circumstance needs and refers to Master Teacher as necessary.
- Ensures that each client understands both the pertinent Church teachings and the Sympto-Thermal method rules for each session prior to passing them on to the next session.
- Helps couples seeking clarification on how to apply the Method’s Guidelines or in the interpretation of their charts.
- Maintains client records in a strictly confidential manner, both at home, in the database, and in transport to the Diocesan Pastoral Center.
- Maintains professionalism in all communication- with all clients while also being enthusiastic, courteous, and friendly.
- Conveys respect for each couple/ client and promotes their autonomy in the use of NFP.
- Establishes and maintains effective communications with the Office of NFP and appropriate people and organizations within the Diocese of Phoenix and Northwest Family Services.
- Main contact and assistant in the organization and promotion of the course “Know Your Cycle/Know Your Body” fertility awareness education programs run by the NFP Office. This may require in-person involvement in at least 2 out of the 5 sessions.
Additional Job Functions
- Must maintain effective and consistent communication with supervisors and coworkers via Teams. Attendance to regular office meetings will be scheduled in advance between the Online NFP Instructor and the NFP Coordinator and/or the MRL Director. To ensure Team cohesion, a small percentage of those meetings will also be in-person.
- In-person attendance and help during the following annual NFP Office events, out of normal office hours: NFP Instructor’s In-Service; Marriage and Respect Life’s Appreciation Dinner.
- Performs any necessary job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the Coordinator of Office of Natural Family Planning.
- When online work is slow, uses remaining work hours to assist with instruction and/or administrative tasks of NFP Office.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Instructor training experience in Symtpo-Thermal (now SymtpoPro) method of NFP.
- Successful completion of Northwest Family Services SymptoPro instructor training, with certification in that method in process or achieved.
- Successful completion of practicum for certification preferred or willingness to finish it.
- Ability to keep abreast of NFP and family planning trends and incorporate, where appropriate, this information in teaching clients.
- Ability to work without direct supervision, take initiative, be creative and anticipate solutions to problems; needs good judgment in emergency situations and when working with varied personalities and cultures.
- Excellent organizational and record keeping skills, as exhibited in consistent and correct use of all client and office forms and punctuality in returning rosters, client consent forms, follow-up forms, introduction evaluations, charts, and fees (where applicable) to the NFP office.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the ability to learn Moodle software.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be an Arizona resident.
- Experienced user of Symtpo-Thermal Method of NFP necessary.
- AA degree in Business or equivalent experience preferred.
- Practicing Catholic who enthusiastically supports the teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Evident heart for Evangelization.
Work Environment
- This job operates mainly in a remote professional office environment, but in-office presence is required for certain occasions (as described).
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands
- This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
