What you'll do:
Viasat’s NPI Engineering team leads the planning and build activity of prototype hardware, coordination with DFX, Mfg Eng, Quality, OPM, IE, PTE as well as design engineering to manufacture prototype hardware, incorporating organizational objectives for highly manufacturable products, and operational preparation for the product’s transition to production. At this time, we are seeking an NPI Engineering Manager.

This is a functional manager role requiring the ability to lead the PTEATF and Antenna development segments of the NPI organization, providing direct NPI Engineering support on development projects. It will be your responsibility to assess current and future workloads of your organization, develop and execute plans for supporting those workloads, including staff level adjustments and review, and revision of operational processes as needed in support of Viasat’s overall objective for efficiency and automation. You will also be responsible for the relevant training of direct reports and engagement with your customers to understand and meet their expectations.
The day-to-day:


In this role, you will function as:

  • Part NPI Engineer
  • Part mentor to direct reports and
  • Part manager of your assigned areas

As an NPI Engineer, you will fulfill the role of the NPI Engineer, supporting the needs of projects you are responsible for. As mentor, you will lead by example, guide and counsel your team towards excellence and consistency, and offer them support and guidance in pursuit of their career goals. As manager, you will plan and guide your organization in the fulfillment of the overall goals and objectives outlined by the NPI Organization, Strategic Technology Group, Ops Engineering, and Viasat, Inc.

What you'll need:
To be successful in this role, you will:

  • Possess 5+ years of related engineering experience
  • Bachelor of Science in related Engineering discipline
  • Have a strong desire to manage and lead direct reports.
  • Be at a Sr. NPI Engineer level or higher with direct experience and expertise supporting product development.
  • Have a deep understanding of the PTEATF organization and the methods and practices that make the NPI Engineering’s support in this role so valued and effective.
  • Have a full understanding of the interactions required with functional support groups, (e.g. planning, supply chain, stock room, shipping, configuration management, quality, etc.)
  • Be highly proficient in the use of JIRA.
  • Be adept at problem identification and resolution.
  • US Citizenship required
  • Work hybrid on the Carlsbad campus.
  • 10% travel.

  • Deep understanding of the PTEATF function.
  • Significant experience working in JIRA and the ability to apply the JIRA tool to new applications.
  • Strong leadership fundamentals including EQ, Empathy, Compassion, and desire to serve others.
  • A strong passion for NPI Engineering.
Salary range: $122,250.00 - $199,450.00 / annually : At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
