Job Summary:

The Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) provides operations support services and business solutions to the community of 10,000 House Members, Officers, and staff. The CAO organization comprises more than 650 technical and administrative staff working in a variety of areas, including information technology, finance, budget management, human resources, payroll, childcare, food and vending, procurement, logistics and administrative counsel.


This position is located in the Network Engineering and Operations Directorate, House Information Resources (HIR), Office of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), U.S. House of Representatives (House). The Networking Directorate provides operational support services to the House that ensure reliable and dependable connectivity to the House Data Network both on the House Campus and to District Offices as well as numerous Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BC/DR) projects. This position serves as the Senior Network Systems Engineer with a primary focus on Wi-Fi and NAC.


Key responsibilities include providing senior engineering analyses, design, testing, integration, and level 3 operations for the House networks; performing cost/benefit analysis on new and competing technologies; assisting in preparing and reviewing proposals and quotes; and providing senior level operational support on day-to-day operations and complex problem resolution.This position requires team collaboration and will be onsite.


Responsibilities:


  • Manage Wi-Fi infrastructure, review surveys, recommend enhancements, troubleshoot issues.

  • Provide NAC troubleshooting support for switches and end user devices.

  • Provides senior level operational support on day-to-day operations and resolution to complex wireless and LAN problems.

  • Designs complex integrated communication networks and develops network service specifications and procedures.

  • Evaluates and recommends standards compliant solutions.

  • Develops traffic engineering studies and analyses to determine data network requirements.

  • Performs cost/benefit analysis on competing methods of providing data communications.

  • Assists in the preparation of Request for Proposals and Request for Quotations.

  • Keeps abreast of relevant technology changes.

  • Trains other House staff in technologies and provides technical guidance to junior level engineers.

  • Performs other official duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum 7 years of experience designing and supporting large scale campus and Wi-Fi networks.

  • Experience in contract management, project management, SDLC, and change management processes required.

  • Experience with Visio and Microsoft Office suite.

  • Skill in analyzing Netflow and Sniffer traces

  • Skill in coordination of network engineering and integration projects

  • Ability to provide engineering leadership on all phases of analysis, design, testing, and implementation of networking projects.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with elected officials, senior staff, information systems professional, and non-technical users.

Preferred:

  • CCNA preferred

  • CCNP preferred
