The person in this position will play an important role in supporting Highline’s Promise Partnership and cohort learning communities. The Navigator will provide case management support to students and their families, provide support and resources to post-secondary education pathways and career workshops, engage with King County Promise partnership events and programs.
This is an exempt, grant-funded, full time position. The current grant provides two-years funding grant until June 30, 2024. Grant is subject to renewal upon expiration.

Essential Tasks
Reporting to the Director of Cohort Learning Communities (CLC), this position will:
- Provide holistic academic advising to prospective and current college students within one or more broad career/academic pathways; Teach students to explore academic degree options, identify appropriate courses, navigate college processes and prepare for their next steps of transfer, beginning an applied bachelor program or entering a career field;
- Collaborate and maintain relationships with area high school staff, parents and students to support and promote students’ transition to post-secondary education. This includes participation in college and career team trainings, meetings, and planning sessions with the Secondary Success and College and Career Readiness team and Promise partners;
- Facilitate communication and outreach within Highline among faculty, students, and staff about the cohort learning communities with the goal of increasing internal referrals to the programs;
- Manage student applications and screening processes;
- Advocate for and assist in integrating and incorporating learning community practices, norms and organizational values into campus wide professional development opportunities;
- Provide culturally appropriate academic and college-success advising for high school students and first-year students in the CLC programs, particularly “Highline Promise Partnership” Students;
- Track student attendance and academic progress towards goals, and key measures of success;
- Co-develop seamless transition plan and culturally relevant events with Highline College King County Promise Navigator;
- Connect CLC students to appropriate faculty advisors for degree exploration and planning;
- Support CLC students to meet financial aid deadlines and apply for scholarships
- Work closely with faculty to identify and intervene with students on both academic and personal issues;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Student Services offices, including Center for Leadership and Service, Center for Cultural Inclusiveness and Excellence, MESA, and Trio);
- Facilitate culturally relevant workshops. Including but not limited to college readiness and success; financial wellness; and transfer;
- Assist students with transfer applications and admissions processes;
- In Collaboration with the Director of Cohort Learning, coordinate events and activities for Cohort Learning Students (including program orientation, training sessions, workshops, and extracurricular activities);
- Foster and support a culture of collaboration and sharing of resources across the cohort learning community programs;
- Maintain communications with learning community students, faculty, student services, office of instruction, and other administrators.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills;
- Adept to using various software applications including Excel, Word and other relevant software.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree, AND
- Experience working with students from historically underserved populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree;
- Experience in programing for College Preparation, Leadership, and Advising;
- Experience working in Higher Education.
Supplemental Information

Conditions of Employment
Highline College does require COVID-19 vaccinations for all students, staff and faculty –– with waivers for specific exemptions –– for those who physically attend courses, operations, or other in-person activities. This decision was made in accordance with higher education proclamation 20-12.4. A candidate will not be asked to report their vaccination status unless they are hired by the college. If a candidate chosen for hiring is not fully vaccinated from COVID-19 and plans to submit a medical or religious exemption to this employment condition, the hiring process will be suspended until a decision has been made regarding any exemption application which is submitted.
