Student Support Services Team


Position Overview:

IDEA Public Schools is seeking a national Director of Mental Health and Social Emotional Learning (DOMHSEL)to join our growing Student Support Services Team. The Director is responsible for supporting the Vice President of Student Support Services (VP) in ensuring the student social emotional and mental health needs are met in each region, across all states. The DOMHSEL sets the vision for strategic initiatives, staffing support structures, and training in the areas of Mental Health and Social Emotional Learning. The DOMSHEL has a particular focus on managing the Manager of Mental Health Crisis towards executing on these outcomes, and works with the VP, other functional business partners, Executive Directors (EDs), and regional leadership teams to support the implementation of large-scale initiatives, management of progress towards goals, and education related to mental health and SEL. The DOMHSEL offers additional support by building the capacity of Regional SEL Coaches through coaching and development.


This is a full-time remote position based in Texas with preference given to candidates who live in Austin, Greater Houston, Permian Basin, Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, or who are willing to relocate. This role will require up to approximately 25% travel annually. Typically, this will look like travel for team quarterlies (4 per year) and occasional monthly travel.


Compensation:

Salaries for people entering this role typically fall between $82,000 and $100,900 commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and in alignment with internal equity. This role is also eligible for additional performance pay based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.

In this role you will:

  • Creates and executes the vision for providing high quality mental health support for all students, staff, and families for IDEA Public Schools
  • Cultivate and collaborate with business partners to execute Mental Health and SEL vision and strategy for IDEA Public Schools, specifically VP’s of schools, Principals, Assistant Principals of Operations, and Academic Counselors
  • Collaborates with direct reports to lead vision for, design of, and delivery of high quality training tools and resources to support leaders in meeting the persistence goals through Social Emotional Learning support
  • Invests and educates leaders in the ties between mental health services, student culture, student achievement, and persistence
  • Ensures adherence and compliance to all Federal, State, and local/district policies, procedures, and reporting timelines. 100% of deadlines and submissions are met for state and federal reporting, as well as 100% of internal reporting deadlines.
  • Leads the curation of best practices and materials from schools in portfolio and maintains the resource library shared across the network
  • Tracks and reports data for Social Emotional Learning implementation on a weekly basis for schools; intervenes when schools are off-track
  • Leads the process of SEL student surveys to collect data on impact of Social Emotional Learning curriculum
  • Leads vision and design for crisis intervention plan. Collaborates with Manager of Mental Health and Crisis Support to coaches and supports campus and regional leaders through situation directly.
  • Collaborates with VP and Manager of Family Engagement to develop and implement comprehensive onboarding plans, training materials, and professional development for SEL coaches.
  • Builds the leadership and management capacity of Regional Student and Family Managers to ensure the success of national and regional priorities.
  • Collaborates with EDs and regional leadership teams to align on national priorities and strategic initiatives supporting social emotional learning and mental health initiatives for students.
  • Performs in-the-field observations (check-ins, huddles, walk-throughs, etc.) of SEL Coaches, SCs, SWs, and SSAs.


Required experience:

Education: Master’s degree in Social Work, MFT, LPC or other counseling specialty required

Licensure: Licensed in Social Work, Licensed Professional Counselor, LMFT

Experience: Teaching or school experience preferred; Experience working with children and families, Experience working within crisis situations, Experience managing others through influence and training adults, Ability to write and speak Spanish preferred

  • Knowledge of legal requirements for counseling and crisis within the state you are licensed and openness to learn the requirements across states

You will be responsible for leading your team to meet the following ambitious goals:

  • 85% retention of Regional Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Coaches, School Counselors (SCs), Social Workers (SWs), and Student Success Advisors (SSAs) Measurable goal
  • 90% Overall Student Persistence
  • 90% fidelity to Move This World (SEL curriculum)
  • 80 NPS across all stakeholder training
  • 100% of schools are staffed with a Licensed Mental Health professional

Physical Requirements: (Optional)

  • Must be able to sit for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.
  • Must be able to climb ladders or scaffolding, or climb and work in overhead areas
  • Must be able to work in a confined space or to crawl or move about on hands and knees.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move ___ pounds (regularly/occasionally)
  • Physical ability to work around small children including sitting, standing, running and climbing stairs.
  • Must be able to lift and carry small children up to 40 pounds in case of emergency.
  • Must be able to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including in times of excessive heat or cold
