QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor of science degree in medical technology or biology, or two-year associate degree in applied laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for specimen processing, test performance, and for reporting test results with precision and accuracy.

• Follows laboratory procedures in preanalytical, analytical, and for post analytical phases of laboratory testing.
• Performs clinical laboratory procedures as authorized by Laboratory Director with precision and accuracy and examines the results.
• Calibrates, maintains, and trouble shoots instrumentation as needed.
• Maintains and documents quality control program.
• Inventories and requisitions assigned areas.
• Attend monthly meetings and/or inservices pertaining to laboratory testing proficiency material or other related topics as assigned by Laboratory Director.
• Observes all necessary safety guidelines.
• Performs similar and related duties as assigned.
• Test proficiency samples in the same manner as patient specimens.
• Performs and documents remedial action as necessary.
• Is capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or notify the Resource Tech, Technical Supervisor or Director.
• Any testing personnel qualifying under the general supervisor status may perform supervisor duties as assigned.
• Performs Phlebotomist’s essential job functions.
