Mold MAKER
The Tool Maker works from finalized mold design print information, database and functional data to create optimized computer numerical control (CNC) programs to produce machined parts required for construction of mold assemblies for prototypes and production molds. The Tool Maker plans methods and sequence of machining, taking into consideration such factors as the characteristics of various metals, the effect of heat treating, warpage, etc. The Tool Maker lays out parts and de-bugs programs for successive machining operations, performs complicated set ups, improvises tooling when standard tooling cannot be utilized, and determines machine speeds and feeds. The Tool Maker ensures ProMed’s brand, philosophy, systems, policies, and procedures are properly implemented and observed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Position duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Sets up and operates alternately more than one type of production machine tools such as grinders, mills, drill presses, lathes, etc., on complicated one-off parts involving difficult operations, close tolerances, and difficult set-ups of parts of irregular shapes;
- Builds new molds, gages, jigs, and fixtures, in accord with engineering drawings or sketches;
- Selects suitable metal (if not specified) for work requirements;
- Capabilities with general shop measuring equipment, micrometers, calipers, gauge pins, etc.;
- Modifies or repairs existing dies, jigs, fixtures, and gages in accordance with engineering drawings, sketches, operating requirements, or verbal instructions.
- Sets up machines in accordance with operational and safety requirements.
- Operates machines at speeds compatible with machine operation performed and cutting characteristics of material used;
- Progressively checks during and at finished product that work performed is in accordance with engineering drawing or sketch;
- Performs machine maintenance as required;
- Performs special assigned functions;
- Abilities to set-up, program, and run computer numerical control (CNC) lathes and mills without supervision;
- Basic understanding of programming and design using computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) and computer-aided design (CAD) software; preferably Mastercam and Cam-Tool.
- Meets expectations of regular, reliable attendance;
- Other Duties As Needed: Any other duties and tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate.
Required:
- Must have a high degree of skill, attention to detail, and a passion for precision;
- Must have a strong ability to use a wide variety of machine tools, machinist's hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as 3 and Saxis computer numerical control (CNC) machines, CNC electrical discharge machines (EDM), Surface grinders;
- High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 6 years of prior relevant experience s post-Secondary/Associates Degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience;
- Experience operating a wide range of manual machine tools, including lathes, grinders, drill presses, etc.;
- Previous machine set up experience;
- Ability to work within a team environment;
- Requires fully proficient job knowledge/skills;
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products to include, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project;
- Commitment to continuous improvement company-wide;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills both written and verbal; professional, courteous and friendly personality; clearly conveys ideas and information and receives information effectively;
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving and time-sensitive skills;
- Ability to create positive working relationships with a diverse group of people including gender, ethnicity, age, and cultural and skill level differences;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
- Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
