Description:

The research will involve development and testing of very high frequency (90 GHz to 600 GHz) radar systems and measurement methods for atmospheric science applications. A likely focus for postdoctoral work will be to investigate how to improve the technique of differential absorption radar for humidity sounding inside clouds, or measuring partial water vapor columns in clear air. Other possible research topics include cloud/precipitation radars, active molecular spectroscopy instrumentation, and high resolution radar imaging more broadly.

Dr. Ken Cooper (http://scienceandtechnology.jpl.nasa.gov/people/k_cooper), in JPL's Instrument Electronics Section, will serve as JPL postdoctoral advisor to the selected candidate. The appointee will carry out research in collaboration with the JPL advisor, resulting in publications in the open literature.

Candidates should have a recent PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar field with a strong background in laboratory work, instrumentation development, and data analysis, preferably with expertise in a one or more of the following fields: RF/microwave test, measurement, and design; low-noise measurements; antennas and waveguide engineering; submillimeter-wave engineering; remote sensing; and data acquisition and signal processing. Candidates who have received their PhD within the past five years since the date of their application are eligible. Postdoctoral Scholar positions are awarded for a minimum of one-year period and may be renewed up to a maximum of three years.
