About the Mental Health Therapist role:
Reports To: Clinical Supervisor and Deputy Director
Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Salary/Wages: $52,000 to $62,000 annual salary; Plus health insurance, paid leave, and opportunity to contribute to the organization’s 403b retirement plan.

Position Responsibilities:

The Mental Health Therapist provides free critical culturally and linguistically specific support to individuals within the South Asian community in Southern California. In addition to therapy services, the Therapist will also conduct workshops at cultural, faith-based and college campuses to build awareness about mental health and reduce stigma. The Therapist works across program areas, and is an important and growing role at the South Asian Network. The
Mental Health Therapist will report to the Clinical Supervisor and Deputy Director.

● Conduct intakes, screenings and assessments of community members seeking services in relation to mental health;

● Provide individual, family, group therapy, and support to community members seeking services;

● Maintain proper client files, including initial biopsychosocial assessments, treatment plans, session notes, collateral contacts, and discharge summaries and; ensure all files are complete and up-to-date at all times;

● Conduct outreach and workshops, and provide psychoeducation about mental health services in community, and senior centers, religious centers, on campuses and in South
Asian cultural spaces;

● Develop and disseminate culturally and linguistically appropriate communication material for the South Asian American community;

● Represent SAN in community based settings, coalition meetings, conferences etc.
● Work with staff across SAN's units to plan and conduct activities such as workshops, presentations and outreach events at community festivals, religious spaces and schools and colleges;

● Assist with other duties as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

● In an eight-hour workday, the employee must be able to bend and crouch occasionally, sit continuously and stand or walk frequently.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

● Masters in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology or other related degree

● Understanding effects of poverty, disabilities, intersectionality, and cultural awareness in relation to trauma and treatment.

● Knowledge of child, elder and dependent adult abuse and domestic violence reporting requirements and other significant regulations affecting clinical practice (e.g. Tarasoff, patient-psychotherapist privilege).

● Knowledge of issues related to immigrants and community resources;
● Ability to handle crisis situations;
● Ability to facilitate support groups and/or workshops;
● High self-awareness and willingness to seek support through supervision as needed;
● Ability to work with diverse cultures, community, and professional groups;
● Ability to complete timely, confidential, and ethically appropriate documentation;
● Comfort and competence in working independently as well as part of a team;
● Excellent communication and time management skills;
● Ability to work flexible hours (including some weekends);
● Valid Ca driver’s license, insurance, and auto that may be used during working hours;
● Bilingual skills (English + South Asian language);
● Ability to support the mission and philosophy of the South Asian Network;
● Unlicensed Clinical Therapists must have current and active registration with the

California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) as an Associate Clinical Social Worker,
Associate Professional Clinical Counselor, or Associate Marriage and Family Therapist;

● Knowledge of and ability to abide by legal, ethical, and professional guidelines set forth by NASW, CAMFT, BBS, APA,HIPAA and other relevant guiding governing bodies.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Previous experience providing therapy to the South Asian community strongly preferred, but not required.
