CASA & CASA IN ACTION SYNOPSIS:
CASA’s mission is to create a more just society by building power and improving the quality of life in working class and immigrant communities. CASA has a sister organization, CASA in Action, a separate, but related, nonprofit organization that is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Although CASA and CASA in Action share a common goal of supporting immigrants and low-income people in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Virginia, and nationally, they are separate organizations with their own board of directors. A set of employees at the two organizations, including the person filling this position, shares their time between the two organizations. This has no effect on salary or benefits.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Membership Engagement Program coordinator is a member of the department’s central membership team, and plays a primary role in supporting and expanding CASA’s organizing program by activating new and potential members through relational organizing, peer to peer text, and other remote strategies. S/he will support all organizing teams in VA, MD, GA, and PA and nationally. Internally, s/he will support the Membership Engagement Program Manager in developing and implementing innovative strategies for member activation as well as leadership trainings for member leaders and organizers to facilitate a leadership ladder of activists into our membership committees. S/he will also implement digital member communication strategies to support member activation and to bring new members into the leadership development program and the organizing committees.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate monthly new member and peer to peer texting campaigns
- Engage potential new members and allies through implementation of ongoing peer to peer and relational organizing campaigns, in coordination with Membership field manager and Lead organizers
- Provide training and support for member leaders, organizers, and other staff to facilitate their participation in relational organizing and peer to peer texting campaigns
- Track and report on list growth, engagement and activation rates, and support the membership engagement and organizing teams in continually identifying best practices and strategies for increasing engagement.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for trainings and actions
- Support the development, expansion, data tracking and evaluation of the membership program.
- Meet deadlines established by supervisor and in Department and individual work plan.
- Complete quarterly trimester reports.
- Participate actively in the annual planning process, including developing and executing individual work plans, evaluating and providing feedback on plans as the year progresses
- Think creatively about ways to improve further his/her specific job and the organizations.
- Other duties assigned by supervisor related to position.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Valid US Drivers License and a reliable vehicle
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Ability to perform all of the duties outlined above.
- Deep commitment to social change and to growing CASA de Maryland and CASA in Action as membership organizations in which members have decision-making authority.
- Excellent writing and speaking skills.
- Strong interpersonal communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills. Ability to connect with a wide variety of administrative, organizational, and grassroots leaders.
- Outgoing and highly charismatic personality a must.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work at a fast pace with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple ongoing projects. Position requires strong attention to detail and relentless follow-up.
- Experience working with immigrant or working class communities; commitment to progressive issues
- Skilled with Microsoft Office programs including MS Word, Excel, Power Point and desktop publishing software
- Ability to hold privileged information in a professional and confidential manner.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends. Early morning, late evening, and weekend hours are common.
- At least two years of training, organizing, or election related field experience.
- Familiarity with digital communication and relational organizing tools, including Hustle, Zoom, Impactive, Empower, Every Action/NGP Van, and social media tools.
- Bilingual English and Spanish
